I guess the owners bring their mean dogs to Petsmart to socialize them. Isolating a mean dog may just make it meaner...I know there's a time and place for mean dogs to get socialized...but it's the only reason I can think of.

Well, that and so they don't just leave them in the car, especially during the summer.

I have a small, very mobile dog. But geez, I wouldnt bring my dog into a store (let alone a restaraunt) out of respect people and peoples businesses. I mean, what if someone was allergic to a dog? And honestly WHY do you need to bring your dog shopping? The dog isnt helping you pick out a purse or a shirt. And what if your dog pees/poops? How embarassing would that be!

I take my dog in stores and he is very well behaved, and everyone loves him. Dogs need some form of work in their daily life, except play, hugs, and food.

Going shopping with me and behaving well in crowds and shops is his job.

I always ask if it is ok to bring my dog inside, if they have a problem I just tell him to wait outside, but because of the heat recently everyone tells me it's ok to bring him in the shop.

the thing is. . . it's shouldn't be about the dog or it's owner, it's about how the people around you may possibly feel.
Every time I've heard of a child or person being bit the 1st thing the owner always says is: "he's always SO sweet! He's never bitten anyone before!
Biting aside, it's truly not fair to those around you IMO.

I love dogs but I am not so sure it is a good idea for dogs to be in stores, just due to the hygeine issue and also because of allergies.

Better not take Mr Swanky to Paris any time soon, dogs are everywhere! But most of them are so quiet and well behaved, you hardly notice them. Even the dogs in Paris are cool

I've read this before, I hope you are the one that posted it. Would hate to think this has happened more than once. This makes me sick.

I've seen it too, VLL. On planes and in other public places.

I've seen dogs in stores in Chicago and Boston. See them EVERYWHERE in Miami!!! It doesn't bother me at all. I don't take my dog inside stores because I worry about him peeing, but if I needed to then I would put him in a stroller.

it really bothers me. i mean i have a dog and i love him to death but i have no desire to bring him shopping with me.

I mean seriously what is the purpose of bringing a dog with you, just so it can sit in your little carrier or whatever while you shop/eat? I just don't think it's appropriate...this is why we kennel train our dogs so they can stay at home safe and sound in their crate while we are out of the house!

Plus its very inconsiderate to other people!! I have absolutely horrible allergies..I've gotten used to my dog so I don't react to him, but other dogs/cats...I will get sick around. IMO only service animals should be allowed in stores.

I'm not trying to be a smart ass, but I really don't understand the need to compare the two.

I think Boca Raton mall is one of the worst places with the dog people, the dogs in strollers just make you laugh. I mean get a life.....is it so important that you have to drag your dog to the mall with you? There are a lot of owners who think their dogs are perfect and let them down on the floor in the big department stores, the salespeople do not appreciate having to clean up after dogs or having a possible injury to someone falling....but the dogs are still allowed. Worth Ave. in Palm Beach is another big dog place but at least the stores entrances are outside on the avenue or courtyards. People seem nicer with there dogs there. I really think the stores should keep the dogs out but they cater to their rich clients who feel entitled to have their dogs with them. I bet if a dog bit someone and they got sued things might change. With so many little kids around, even the most gentle dog can get startled with a kid jumping on it or scaring the dog.

I was talking to the manager in a swank clothing store. He said he had real problems with dogs peeing and pooping by the clothing racks. And usually the owners were oblivious, pawing through the clothes. It put him and the clerks in a very difficult position, trying to quickly clean up after the dog without insulting the customer or alerting other customers.
