So to prevent all the trouble of dodging the health dept. because here they don't play about this, if they catch you, they will revoke your license and will close your store, I don't allow them in and every store I know of have to follow this rule. Some stores have been fined for violating this and the managers fired for allowing it. A lot of places started this a few years back after there was an outbreak of tick fever a few years ago in Colorado.
You are a store owner? That is quite surprising considering the negative remarks you have made in the Coach subforum in regards to all males and how they should not be allowed in womens' stores and how you will push them out of the way and swear at them if they are in your way....would they not make up half of your clientele?

Do you ban all men from entering your store as you do all animals? From your previous thread, it sure sounds like it.... just wondering...

Today on my walk I must have seen 30 dogs having breakfast with their owners. Yes, they are all on the patio of the restaurants. I did see a person go into Starbucks with her dog. No one seemsed to mind.

It is very normal in Los Angeles. I know people that won't eat at certain places just because they are not dog friendly.

It's funny, I was just about to comment that I don't think dogs belong in stores! But I remembered that my local running store often has a dog around. She's pretty shy around most people and prefers to hang out with the workers or just curls up in the back.

But for some reason, I don't think dogs belong in department stores/boutiques/restuarants. Does this make me a hypocrite? Maybe. The owners' dog is almost like a part of the store now.

One thing, some people have severe allergies to pet dander. I'm allergic to both cats and dogs (and many other things, lol) but most don't bother me too much as long as I take my allergy meds and keep getting my allergy shots.

^I once saw a "resident" dog in a florist's shop, and I freaked out! I coo'ed over her, she was adorable.

That said, I would never risk my business over something like a recent post which pointed out a very violent, unfortunate, and unnecessary reaction to dog hair. This could happen to anyone, and it is not putting your fellow (wo)man in that sort of discomfort- when they just want to enjoy their day too.

My poor hubby had to stand in the 98-degree weather while I waited in a 20-minute line for some bread. It would have been nice if he and the dog could have stayed inside of the doors while they waited.

I never feel the need to take the dog shopping with me specifically, but if I need to run into a store for one thing and I've been walking him, I hate leaving him tied up outside of the store.

Although I haven't read this entire thread, I will say that a high-end store is NO place for misbehaving dogs or children.

I just want to commend your husband (and you!) for not just locking the dog the car so you could both go into the store.

Sadly, it seems far too many people take this approach, and as a result the dog suffers incredibly and often even dies. :(

In Germany it's no big deal to bring your dog with you in a shop or a restaurant as long as the dog is well trained.

As long as the store is "food-less" and the dog is trained and not peeing and jumping all over, it should not be a big deal. Sometimes people let their children act like animals in stores though, not that DRIVES ME NUTS!!!

This is funny because I was just thinking about how I've never been bitten by a dog, but I've been bitten by TWO different children! Obviously, dogs are NOT humans, but some people might as well be animals.

My dogs absolutely soaks up all the attention and is in her glory when I bring her to Petsmart! I'd love to bring her shopping with me to actual stores but it's not that common in Chicago, but I have seen it... in two malls. I don't frequent stores downtown though cause I'm more often in the burbs.

PS - this thread has absolutely made me want to take my dog on vacation with me somewhere pooch friendly! She can be my new travel buddy... LOL

Edit to add...
My now-older dog (that was a young dog when I was a teenager, therefore doing dumb things) that still lives with my parents has been inside a bowling alley (numerous times, off leash to top it off). :) But I never took him shopping! I was friends with all the guys who worked there, so doggie came with me to visit them. No one ever cared, and if they did I just brought him into a back room.

My friend owns a gym and all her clients bring their dogs when they work out. She has a special area for "doggy day care"

That's an interesting point... it doesn't bother me when store owners have their dog or cat with them at work (unless it's food retail). It just bothers me when shoppers do it

I work in a clothing store and I seriously don't understand what's the point of bringing your dog into the store with you.. I understand it if you really need the dog to be with you (for example blind people) or if you are going to buy something for your dog (new overall etc.) but these are special occasions. I think it is also somehow inconsiderate to take your pet to a store because someone (a sales person or another customer) can be really allergic or something and it can cause very much harm to someone with this kind of illness.

I am watching the Fox morning news and one of the anchors brings her dog teddy all the time. He has it's own chair right next to her, sometimes he even lays on the desk. You can see him on air the entire time.
