I dropped my car off for service and had my 88 pound dog w/ me. She and I both like to go on long walks, and then back to pick up car.

An hour or so into the walk, we walked past a jewelry store. There was this gorgeous diamond estate ring in the window. Well drool must have been coming out the side of my mouth. The owner walked a customer to the door to leave and asked if I would like to see the ring. I said yes and headed to tie my dog up outside.

"Oh no she said, please bring your beautiful dog in." I knew then she wanted a sale and if the price was good, since Mabel was allowed in---

Well I'm wearing the ring now while I type this.

She might have hated dogs who knows, but she knew that people LOVE their animals and she helped get a sale that way.

He does these things because he's a dog and that's what dogs do. Stores, restaurants, etc. are not made for dogs, they are made for people.
i think it's funny that people bring up the argument of people vs. dogs...i love being human, but what makes us so much "better"...because we can walk up right, think "rationally", have bigger brains, pollute/destroy our planet, start wars, commit terrorism against our fellow mankind, slaughter innocent animals for sport/fur trading etc? we're not really that far removed from dogs anyway evolutionarily. domestic dogs have evolved because of us. we were their companions and they depends on us for their needs. after all, we're animals too, right?

i prefer my animal companions to most people, but maybe that's just me

P.S. not directed at you personally vhdos, i just found your post sparked my thought and i quoted it

oh no i'm not offended. i pretended to not know who's kids they were. lol jk. i understand that some public places are not intended to be a dog park or children's playground. but if the place don't mind, its the owner/parent's responsbility to make sure that their pets/kids behave and don't disrupt other people's dining/shopping experience.

To spark further thoughts, while I am familiar with genetic similarities, there are clear behavioral differences between humans and animals. Do you have behavioral urges to bite someone because you perceive them as a threat ? But your dog may.

Dogs are people too, and I'll bite anyone who disagrees!

Ok, now I'm laughing - not at you - but just at how this thread has evolved. Obviously, I understand how biology works. I think it's crazy to think dogs are people and I am a dog-lover! Dogs are not people. Period. End of story. When dogs replace humans and take over the planet, then we'll talk

I was kidding! Dogs aren't people, not last I checked. 'Tis an insult to dogs! ;P

Who doesn't like a good laugh...especially at the rate this thread is going.

Yup, very common. I've seen this in Banana Republic in LA and one of the stores in NY.
I personally don't mind but I wouldn't go shopping with my dog.
He doesn't like crowds anyway. People tend to wanna pet him and make him nervous.
Moreover, I' hate for anyone to give my baby any nasty stares.

I always see people will smaller (less than 30lb) dogs in department stores. I don't have a problem with it as long as their dog isn't incessantly yapping.... which is sometimes the case. When DBF and I went to stanford shopping center (largeish outdoor shopping center) with our 70 lb dobie, he waited outside while I went in to NM. A SA saw him out there and asked him to come in. We were both pretty stunned.

But wait, that one Disney movie had me believe that there was Dog Super Spy Agents zooming around in flying saucers. Was that not true?

^^no that was true, but they were special dogs.

its very common here in ny, and doesnt bother me at all. my feeling is that if theyre selling dog products (carriers, collars, leashes, dog coats, etc), the dog should be allowed in. designers want to make money off the dog lovers, they should cater to them too.

Very funny, Vlad! I was shocked too when I found out it was all an illusion...
