I 've seen this happening...should this be reported?

Maybe a "report post" thread in the rules section would clear some things..just saying...

anything questionable should be reported, that would include bullying, rudeness, rule breaking, etc . . . .
But if another member just reminds someone that there's a better, more appropriate place to post a question it shouldn't be reported unless that member is rude.

[quote=brick78;8148119]That only happens in certain forums though. I am gonna be honest. Some forums and the people there have major attitudes to the point of no return. I stay out of certain ones because they make up "rules" about everything, and some say do this, dont do that, read this, blah blah, and I just think its a bit much. quote]

And like life away from the computer, thats what you gotta do. I stay out of certain threads (can't say I avoid certain forums) because I just don't want to engage certain people. Nothing is ever going to be perfect. You are dealing with a very large group dynamic with personalities that span the globe. Report people you feel are being rude. Then just stay away from those people. Its not worth it. I believe there are far more friendly people in here than rude people. And as long as you carry yourself in a dignified way, try not to focus on the bad apples.

Okay, brick, seriously... don't worry about it. This is a big forum. You will not get along with 100% of the people 100% of the time. Find some friends, give this place a chance, and have fun. When you've been here long enough, you'll see that the forum is organized the way it is for a reason.

lol, well, as with the thread that the OP is complaining about, it is in the completely wrong place, so it should be closed (if she has questions about why a certain thread was closed or about why the rules are as they are, it should be PMed to a mod or put in the feedback section). but i think that the dialogue about when and why to report posts is important for many people to discuss, particularly as of late, so it's staying open. or at least i won't close it as it is. but if another mod feels like that's the right decision, then that's their call, because that's what the rule is, and any member with over a thousand posts should be aware of it.

To answer this original post, I am sure many reported posts become personal rather than reporting a rule being broken. Person A doesn't like Person B and person A thinks Person B is being rude.

But once reported, that is up to us, as mods, to decide how to move forward. One mod may close, the other may post to be kind, the other may ignore - we all mod differently, but we do what we think is best in each situation.

It is not always perfect, but if you see something as more of a serious issue, it does not hurt to come to Vlad and I. We will get to it when we can, sometimes it takes longer than other times, but we will get to it.

...I'm confused. It's not like you didn't suggest that the thread would be closed? It's much more difficult and time consuming to multi-quote than to just quote the most recent poster that said something, I don't think anyone is trying to single anyone out.

I'm not very sensitive, so I've never reported anything.

It does bother me a bit, sometimes, when mods close a thread cause they think it might get out of hand...it's a bit too big brothery to me, but whatevs!

ACK. I misread the title of this thread when I orginally posted.

No, I don't ever report something because I don't agree with it. I only report things that are in blatent violation of the rules, and in all my time here I think I've reported one post maybe?

I do think older members should be kind to newer members who might not know where to put things, but at the same time, new members need to realize that things are the way they are for a very specific reason. No need to get feelings hurt over a thread being closed due to it's being placed in the wrong section. Just open a new one in the correct section. Problem solved!
