I was watching something on the National Geographic channel the other night about the end of the world and how prediction like 9-11 would happen.
What do you all think about this? That apparently the "world is going to end" soon? Maybe it's just another scare like how people freaked out over the year 2000, how computers were supposed to crash and what not. Let's here what you have to say about Dec. 21 2012 |

It is what it is. I don't buy into a lot of the "prophecies" that are out there.
If the world ends on 12/21/12, then it does. |

I've known about this date for years. Can't remember where I read it tbh.
To keep myself sane, I've leaned towards the "end of the world as we know it" kind of thinking rather than anything more sinister. Any more and I'll end up wibbling in a corner. |

EVERYONE in my school is always talking about it, we have been for years. We graduate HS in 2012, so everyone has always known about it. Honestly, I'd like to live a longer life... if it happens, I'd only be 18. But as long as I'm not aware/don't get hurt, I don't really care. And do I believe in it? No.
edit: we just talked about this in math class today, and I was acctually thinking about this earlier today. |

I don't know if I believe it or not, I really don't know what to think of it. All I know is there's nothing we can do to change it if this is the out come. Like you guys have said it is what it is. But I really hope the world doesn't end until I can die of old age, after that I don't care, but I have too much to look forward to for the world to end so soon. lol.

It's because that's when the Mayan calendar just... stops.

I don't buy into the prophecies either.

Don't believe any of the false prophecies out there. No one knows the exact end of the "world". This just might be symbolic of maybe a new age of thinking and awareness.

Planet Earth has been around for billions of years. Homo sapiens have occupied it only a fraction of this time, a tiny sliver. Someone actually believes that s**t's gonna blow up on our watch? Please, get over yourselves, mayans!

Well said. People have been predicting the end of the world since people existed. It is like ghost stories around the camp fire; everyone needs something to be afraid of, so they make things up. This is no different.Besides, that is my 42nd birthday. It is a day of celebration, not the end! |

I watched the same special and there were many mentions on that show that it didn't mean the end to end all ends; rather the beginning of a new era, basically.
