I personally believe that it will not be "the end of the world" but rather a shift in consciousness. Call me weird but I actually think something will happen just on a more metaphysical level.

Well I guess I get another week - I thought it was "ending" on 12/12/12, this is the first I've heard of 12/21/12.

Me too!! I don't believe that the world is going to end in that exact date. I do believe it is coming to an end though. I am talking about hundreds of years, not even thousands. Call me a moron but WE are the ones destroying the world. I am actually surprised how "good" the Earth has been to us when we just don't give a shit.

Like spoiled said, many New Agers believe that the ending of this cycle will correspond to a global "consciousness shift", I hope it is true.

It is not only the Mayan calendar, Nostradamous predicted the same date, so did Confucius, Merlin (the real one not the fiction character) and some others I don't remember. The Black hole alignment theory talks about 2012 as well. There computer programs that have predicted the end by 2012. These TV shows talk about a LOT and every one one of the theories have some sort of sense to them.

I thought no one could tell about Nostradamus's predictions until AFTER they happened. Classic "fortune teller" magic, for people to only be able to see what was meant after the fact! Regardless, people have been predicting the end of the world for millenia. There were justifications and reasons for each one, and each time they have been wrong. I have no more faith in this one than in the rest.

right...kind of like we've been in the Age of Pisces for so long and at some point, if we're not there already, we'll enter the Age of Aquarius? That's what I think this could be about, in all seriousness.

Or, like Charles posted, the guy could have been tired of engraving/writing the calendar!

When you think about it all and the technology and knowledge that these people possessed to build the temples and so forth, it is amazing. I can get really wrapped up in the NATGEO and Smithsonian channels. I have been obsessed lately with the Templar and Freemason shows. lol

I don't know what to think about this. At one point weren't they saying 2011? It kind of scares me but I don't know how much I believe it.

re: Nostradamus and his predictions...
He didn't predict the exact date and he wrote that his quatrains extend through 3797. Also, his predictions are generally only credited to him once the events have occurred.

If it's the end, then it's the end... though I don't tend to buy into all the hype.
