ugh, State's loss to Cal was painful to watch. i was hopeful that we could pull it off, but in the end we tanked. are we ever going to get good on the road?

MsTina - pre-season polls are always interesting, that's for sure. who doesn't love a little speculation? :) and here, here -- love Paterno! cute little old grandpa coach. :)
Maybe it's good that I didn't see the game. I live and die with the Spartans. Do you follow the basketball? In the SF airport last April, I was on the same flight with Tom Izzo! For a State fan, it's like being in the presence of a celebrity.

BTW, dh was born in Ann Arbor, but went to MSU. Weird, huh?

Fight On Fellow Trojan fan!!!

We are #1 now in the AP poll just as we should be!

I can't wait for the game.

I am considering flying out to watch it. My best friend's family are Cardinal & Gold and Associates Club, so they have seats at the 40 yardline row 8.

So If I can swing missing medical school, I will be there to watch the greatest game of the season in person!!!

USC should have been #1 from the start. They played an amazing game against VA.

Even my alum, UCLA, played good.

Can I politely disagree? ( I'm slightly biased though! )

What game(s) is everyone watching today?

We have on the Ohio vs. Ohio State game on right now ... will probably switch between that game and the Auburn game!

the game happened how it did because the coaching staff chose to keep their starters in the game against a softball opponent and run up the score, unlike the vast majority coaching staffs that are playing wildly mismatched opponents.

during the season opener, i leaned over to my roommate and told her that i didn't think we were going to be #1 the next week, and i was right. despite the fact that we were up 38-0 at the time, i know our coaching staff, and i knew that they would take out almost all of our starters and let a lot of freshman and second-stringers play - Richt is extremely fair and very conservative when it comes to things like that, so i knew our scoring would slow down and GASouthern would probably get in a few touchdowns. and i knew that Pete Carroll rarely pulls starters and likes to embarrass opponents. It's a different strategy, and one that probably says a bit about the difference in playing atmosphere in the PAC10 and SEC.

i'll reserve editorial commentary beyond that (from last year's thread, i've learned that a lot of the football fans on here are not comfortable with the level of smack-talking that's common among SEC fans), but my Bulldogs deserved every bit of that #1 ranking.

I agree 100% that Richt is very fair to all of his players, not just the starters. He realizes the 2nd and 3rd string players are at practice and work just as long and hard for their position. Remember, these 2nd and 3rd stringers are only one play away from a starting position if one of the 1st stringers is injured. Mark Richt is such a CLASS ACT!

I was a little spoofed when we were ranked #1 without having taken the field, and I also think the SEC is the most OVERLOOKED division there is. I think we will be showing everybody by the end of the season that we truly earned 1st place.

I am watching/listening to the game now - from work unfortunately. All I can say is ::::::::

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO DAWGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree - Richt is a class act all the way, and a really wonderful guy in person (I sold him a very large television during my time working at the Athens Best Buy during college). Today's win was very impressive, I thought the team played well and looked good!

I've got to say, I'm a little torn right now.

Florida and Miami are playing a really tight game, and my SEC affiliation tells me that I should root for Florida in this game for the good of the conference - when one team wins, we all look better. But, I effing HATE Florida. With the fire of a thousand suns. There is no football team on the face of the planet that I hate as much as Florida (well, I hate USC a lot, but I think Florida beats them). So my instincts are telling me to pull for Miami. But I'd rather Florida was undefeated when we play them in November, because then we look better if we beat them and not QUITE as bad if we lose.

Sigh, college football, why must you be so complicated?

Did anyone catch the Ole Miss vs. Wake Forest game? Ole Miss was up by 1 point with 1:01 left ... I was SO excited for them! But then WF made it down the field and kicked a field goal. Both teams played a great game!
