boxermom - GO GREEN! nice to see a fellow sparty on here! my family is pretty much 50/50 between MSU and UM. it makes college football season so fun. :) DBF's family is the same too! i know that i should support the Big Ten and hope they win against non-conference teams, but it's so hard sometimes! i was silently cheering when they lost so i didn't offend others around me.

ugh, State's loss to Cal was painful to watch. i was hopeful that we could pull it off, but in the end we tanked. are we ever going to get good on the road?

MsTina - pre-season polls are always interesting, that's for sure. who doesn't love a little speculation? :) and here, here -- love Paterno! cute little old grandpa coach. :)

Yeah I'm definitely familiar with the SEC, they have their own special way about them It's similar in the PAC 10 too, just not as rabid...but I still physically itch every time I'm forced to hope Washington beats their opponent. I think I'm getting hives right now just thinking about it....

Jenn, I am an alumni of MSU and my DH is a huge UofM fan so we have pretty heated game watching in our house. I always root for my Spartans though and have my fingers crossed for them this year.

I also am a huge UGA fan. I lived in Ga for years and had so much fun at "the worlds largest cocktail party" and my grandmother went to UGA so I love the Dawgs too.

Yay, another UGA fan!!!

The Tenn/UCLA game last night - now that is what college football is all about! I was rooting for Tennessee (like Amanda, I got to pull for the SEC when I can!) but Craft really looked great in the second half - and so did UCLA's defense.

Not a great birthday night for Fulmer, I would say!

One of the few ACC fans here, go TERPS!!!! Hopefully we will get back to doing as well as we did in the Fridge's first year.

Also mildly root for Pitt as I go there (mainly for them to beat WVU) and also root for Univ of Louisville as that is my father's team and grew up watching them (that loss to UK was brutal)

My BF and I root for the Bruins! (He's an alumni and I was born at the UCLA Medical Center) We're season ticket holders and last night's game against the Tennessee Volunteers was AWESOME!

If we don't quit having injuries, our ranking won't be an issue!

GOOOOOOOOO DAWGS!
We're not #1 anymore, USC is. Which, having watched both games (1 live, 1 on tv), I think is accurate. USC's performance this weekend was stellar (even though most seasons they're hugely overranked), ours was good but not amazing.

We're always slow to start the season, though, so I'm not worried as long as we can stay healthy. I'm ok with not being #1 right now - uneasy is the head that wears the crown, as they say. It made me very nervous, I'd rather be a slight underdog. And if this season is half as crazy as last season was (USC losing to STANFORD), we've got a lot of football left to play.

I think that's why I find college football so superior to the NFL. Every week, every game matters. Anything can happen, it often does, and when it does, it changes the game for everyone. I think that's why the NBA and MLB are also so boring to me - with so many games in a season, one game loses meaning. On the other hand, with only 13 games to play, every scoring drive in college football is important.
