Lightbulb Any tPFers into photography?

I recently rediscovered my love for photography. I used to do a lot of things with my old 35mm Nikon about 10 years ago, once I got the new D300 I started really enjoying capturing cool photos again.

Any other tPFers have photography as a hobby? What do you shoot with?

My current gear:
  • D300
  • Battery pack
  • 12-24mm f/4 AF-S G DX
  • 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 DX VR
  • 60mm f/2.8D Micro-Nikkor
  • 85mm f/1.4
  • 50mm f/1.8
  • SB-800
Let's hear it!

*Gasp* I was about to trade in my D100 for the D300 or D3X. Do you mine if I asked is the body made in Japan?

Me, me!!!!

I only have a P&S(Canon G9) right now, but *I* think I take some great pictures with it!

My SO says when I really start to get into it I can get a SLR lol. I have to prove to him I wont buy a $1,000(plus the cost of lenses!) camera, then put it down and never pick it back up!

Nope, mine's made in Thailand. Is there any significant differences in quality or build?

I don't think a D3X exists yet btw.

Besides, I do not think the enormous price difference between the D300 ($1800) and the D3 ($5000) is justified, unless you are a pro photographer who relies on the additional performance gains.

I am! I kind of fell out of it when I had kids and "life" interupted. But I do still enjoy taking pics. When I was in college I took photog. courses and did all those "artsy" photos. Now I like to take pics of my kids and gardens, mostly. I love arcitecture and think I would photograph it more if I lived in a city.
As for my gear, it's not too impressive. I recently got a Cannon Power Shot digital elph! I desperately wanted a camera I could easily stick in my bag. DH thought I lost it! Before that I had a Fuji digital SLR~~is that the right term? It is digital w/ the ability to change lenses. I still have it, but I like my Elph! In college I had a Minolta SLR, I stlii have that, too.

I have a Canon Rebel XTi SLR and a Sony Cybershot DSC-T9 P&S. I just got the SLR last Christmas and I haven't used it much yet... but I love the quality of the pics. It's my first SLR, and I'm sure once I get the hang of it more I'll upgrade to a higher one

No difference. I just needed it as a way out of trading in my D100. I've created a photography monster out of my dh. He's pushing buttons towards the D300 or D3X sometime during my bd. Hence, the answer so I may politely decline trading up.

Current lenses and gear:

SB-800
4 battery pack
2-4 gb pro compact flash
17-55mm f/2.8D
18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G
80-400mm f/4.5-5/6D
Manfrotto head and tripod

Photography interests: landscapes and nature (wildlife)

Yes! DH and I love photography! We got DSLRs about a year and a half ago - mine is a Canon XTi. We have several lenses but the one I use most is the 24-105mm f/4.

We love to travel too. Our last vacation was to Fiji and Australia last November. Here's one of my favorite pics we took.
