does anyone know if anything is being done about this? where i live counterfiting is a huge crime and many stores get shut down because of it and the police get involved right away. has anyone actually gone to the police about this? i definitely think it would be worth it. since this is a criminal offense and not a civil case, best bet would be to get authorities involved, no need for lawyers.

ok this thread has made me paranoid. =[ ... a couple months ago, i bought a Prada bag for my mom at NM last call and it was only a bit over $500 when the original was like $1600. i know you all said it was OFF FIFTH that has the problem but now it has gotten me all worried about buying things not directly from the main stores... =[

If your mom doesn't mind... I think what you can do is post pictures of the bag on this board to get it authenticated. The people on here are experts at doing this. And/or you could probably take it to a Prada boutique to get it authenticated.

IF it turns out to be fake, you might be able to return it for a refund. There are earlier posts in this thread about how the girls returned their fake bags that they bought (from awhile back even).

Hope this helps and good luck.

And I'm also really glad to know that there's a thread on this. I'll be sure to try not to get bags at Off Fifth.

I remember in the past two years everyone who had bought a Fendi from Sam's Club got a refund because it was a fake and I'm pretty sure there were other companies involved in that, I just only remember Sam's. And I used to work at an Off 5th in Cali last year. My friend was the manager in receiving so I'd help her in the back sometimes and I've seen shipments come in and they either come straight from Saks as what they call "sell off" (stuff that didn't sell in the full line store) or as direct, meaning it came directly from the manufacturer as an oops or in a less nice fabric (like cotton instead of cashmere). I believe you probably bought fakes, but I'm just saying that I'm sure it's isolated because, at least out store, kept really good tabs on where each package was coming from.

Actually I don't think boutiques are allowed to authenticate bags (from reading about other users on here saying that other boutiques can't authenticate bags), but you can try to call and ask.

While this topic was started a while back, I just had to put my two cents in. Please don't assume all off 5th stores sell fakes. Take your bags to a Fendi Boutique, they will be happy to help you.

This is probably not an option for most people buying from Off 5th. Additionally, I do not think most Fendi boutiques will authenticate. Of course one should not assume that all of their bags are fake; this thread is just an FYI of the possibility.

I remember this as well. Not only did Sams Club have to give refunds but they had to pay an undisclosed settlement to FENDI. I remember being in Sam's club several times and seeing FENDI in the showcase. If they were selling fake Fendi it makes me wonder about their other "designer goods"

I heard that people buy real thing in outlets and then return fakes. And in some of the outlets associates do not know better.

Wow! I'm paranoid now too! In the past I have purchased a number of significantly discounted handbags at Off 5th (sometimes it's hard to resist!) It never, ever occurred to me that I should examine them for authenticity. You just assume authenticity!! Of course I thought the same thing when I saw the Fendis at Sam's! I thought that they were such a big company their legal department would ensure that they were selling authentic goods!!

I do totally believe that customers buy authentic bags and return counterfeits.

just checking in...havent been on tpf in such a long time!!!

i wanted to add that while mine and a few others fendi bags were fake, not all bags bought from off 5th are fake.

you should always be up to date with authenticity of bags purchased anywhere...i mean, to spend that much money you think we would be!

ive learned my lesson and always do my homework before spending! lol

now, i am off to see the new bags everyone is buying! :)

good luck~!

To be clear, is this only with OFF 5TH? or there is also an issue with Saks?

IMHO, I don't think you should have to be able to authenticate a bag yourself when you are purchasing the bag from a reputable retailer like Sak's Off 5th. If they are selling fakes and you have purchased one, I would take it directly to the Police! You should NOT have to worry or question when you are buying from Sak's - for Pete's sake!! I have read this entire thread and this is apalling! Sak's should be legitimate and authentic period, if not go to the Police and stop this terrible sham. Sak's is not going to quit until they are forced to quit. I saw some horrible looking bags at Off 5th today, before I read this thread. I think I will go back and purchase one so that I can take it to the Police here. Sak's is still pulling this scam and this was not an isolated incident.
