Default Why is Partisan Politics allowed on TPF?

I was just pointing out and wondering why pro obama avatars and pro obama discussions seemed to be okay and are left unscathed? and alot of those threads weren't even locked, yet when I posted a political image in my signature it was quickly removed. It just seems as though some mods play partisan politics on here, IMO.

We do not allow any politics. If you see a user with an Obama sig, avatar or discussion, report it. This forum receives over 13,000 daily posts, it is impossible for the mods and admins to scan every user. Hence, we rely on our members to report offending behavior.

I find this insinuation PERSONALLY offensive.

I have many times deleted signatures, avatars, and posts that I agreed with as well as ones I didn't agree with. If the member gets reported, the political things get deleted, no matter the candidate or issue they're about. You say that you've seen members with political messages that aren't dealt with - DID YOU REPORT THEM? If you didn't, you're part of the problem about which you're complaining, and if you did, then I personally defy you to find one that was not dealt with in the exact same manner as your political message was dealt with.

There are over 125,000 members here and 13,000 new posts daily. There are exactly SIX people (Megs, Vlad, and the global mods - me, swanky, cristina and pradas meadow) with the capabilities necessary to delete a member's avatar, signature, or a post in any section. It might take us a couple of hours to get to some reported posts (shock of shocks - we all have jobs, families, and responsibilites that might not include constantly searching the forum for political messages), but I assure you that they're all dealt with in the exact same way when and if we are made aware. If you expect them to be deleted immediately, your expectations are unreasonable, and that's your problem and not ours.

Also, it's ridiculous for you to believe that a group of moderators from all different walks of life and different parts of the country are going to go about clandestinely enforcing some sort of unified political message - we all have different beliefs, we don't agree with each other at all, so exactly what sort of partisan politics is a group of people that don't all support the same party supposed to enforce?

Your signature was blatantly against the rules - a rule that you agreed to when you joined and was just reannounced in a reminder for everyone last week. How exactly is enforcing a widely publicized forum rule anything but fair?

In fact, I did report one thing I saw and it was not dealt with, I'm not going to mention the MODs name that I reported it to because people seem to be getting offended, I don't appreciate the attacks, because I never said anything about you I said it SEEMS that SOME mods play partisan. This is called the feedback dropbox so I believe I'm entitled to give some feedback on what I have seen a number of times on here, I don't see the harm in me doing that. I never knew this was the shutup and don't question anything part of the forum...

this thread was last posted on over 8 months ago before we began actively removing ALL political speech, not just politics speech that became contentious. if that's the best evidence you can find of political censorship by moderation, you have very little to be angry over.

and if you're PMing a mod over things that need to be removed, then you're doing it the wrong way - hit the 'report post' button in the bottom of the post so that it goes to the correct members of the mod team. you may have PMed a mod that has no privileges in the section that the post was in, or the PM may have gotten shuffled around. follow protocol, and things will be taken care of.

and i have every right to defend my integrity and the integrity of my fellow moderators if you're going to lob nebulous, vague accusations of partisan posturing. the allegations that you've made are offensive and insulting to our intelligence and ethical sensibilities, and we have every right to set the record straight.

And I have every right to defend myself too and give feedback on what I think isn't right. I have an opinion too, it's not just yours that matters.

We only recently decided that we were 100% against politics. They were always not allowed, but we are doing our best to enforce it very strictly during election time.

If you see anything please do report it or you can PM me. But I think that making the blanket statement that the mods allow politics if it is something they believe in is found to be very offensive.

do you not realize the seriousness of the accusations that you are making? because they're not just feedback, they're accusations, and i don't think anyone is going to take an accusation of this type lightly.

As I have stated it was my opinion and I am unapologetic about it, I am aware that I can report things now.

I agree with the mods. There are only a few of them and thousands of posters. We have to report those that provide offensive posts because they can't be everywhere all of the time. I'm extremely partisan and have worked for a number of politicians but I haven't seen any partisan posts so I think the mods are doing a good job.
I keep my opinions to myself on this forum because it gives me a chance to escape from my work.
