I'm seeing many many more sig's containing links to the members bag selling site or blog that sells bags. I'm curious how this is different from a member posting a link to their ebay auctions or ebay store. (that is prohibited in PF sig's)

Thanks!

I'm not sure, hopefully Vlad will weigh in, it's always been the rules though.
Actually specifically selling blogs aren't allowed.

Thanks Swanky. I'll be interested in Vlad's take on this. I'm seeing it frequently, both with sig's direct to online stores as well as selling blogs.

yeah, regular blogs are fine and actual businesses are fine as well AS LONG as the member MEETS OUR MINIMUM CRITERIA.

I guess that's my point - what is the difference selling/marketing bags thru a PF signature if the only difference is that the mechanism to sell is Ebay vs a blog or online store?

You're right, this is a grey area and we need to sit down and define some clear rules. Gimme a few days to work it out.

I see a lot of stores, service ads, rent a house websites in signatures these days and mostly with new members with a few posts only. I think its only fair they dont get this for free.

Thanks!

I've noticed this, too. And some of those sigs are so big, they completely overshadow the post they are attached to!

There has also been an increase in the less overt attempts to use the forum to sell....many threads/posts stating something along the lines of "I have - insert detailed description here - bag listed on EBay and this buyer said/did thus and such". Or "I have - insert detailed description here - bag and am wondering if I should sell it". And so on and so forth.

But with the size of the forum and more and more people disenchanted with the fees charged on selling venues....it's not at all surprising that a certain percentage come here just to try to take advantage of thousands of purse-lovers together in one spot. It's not right, but I guess it was inevitable.

Was this ever decided upon? Are links to a member's personal website (where they sell handbags and/or advertise their business as a private shopper), or links to a member's Facebook page (which is used to drum up business) allowed?

I know ebay/bonanza links aren't allowed, and frankly, I don't understand why it would be OK for someone to promote their business as a reseller just because it's done privately or off-ebay -- it's the same type of business, they're just not paying ebay or bonanza fees (but they're still using tPF to generate business).

It hasn't changed. People can put their business in their signature provided they meet the minimum requirements. Auction sites are still not permitted for now.
