Not that Vlad would ever allow it, but I was just thinkin' . . . .
I agree, unless someone else quotes them in a comment, there's no record of what someone writes if they can edit it too long after. While most of the time it would be no big deal (I know I sure hate it if I see a misspelling or typo or something in one of my comments), I can see how it could easily be a problem. Too many "I never said that"s and no proof.

I was thinking exactly the same and couldn't agree more.
Plus there's a way to view your post before you submit it; simply use 'Preview Post' feature (described before) - IMO it's brilliant! And if you really worry about spelling etc. you can even copy it into Word document for spelling check (though I guess that may be a bit too much lol).

OK, now what you are describing is ABUSING the ability to edit, that is exactly what I mean when I say that it horrifies me. I can kinda sorta see the point if we are talking about a forum elsewhere where weighty and controversial hot topics are the focus, but this is the Purse Forum!

Why in the world am I going to be saying on here that would be in the same room with "being called out?" Blondes should be careful wearing red? Brunettes should use blue eyeliner?

Even in the non-fashion forums, this place is so sweet and gentle! Because it is a fashion forum with a diverse and international population, the Serene management has empowered us all to discuss politics and religion elsewhere, so I stand by my expression of horrifiedness, that abuse of the editing window would even be an issue!

As I indicated when I asked them to at least give my poor old computer time to reboot when the various traffic scripts crashed my browser, obviously, there must have been a need for it, I don't think that they put an editing window in just for the hell of it.

But that there would be a need for it here in the first place just does not make sense to me!

oh dear. . . you must not be reading the same threads I read!
Maybe it's because I'm "lucky" enough to get everyone's complaints right in my e-mail box, but trust me, every hour on the hour someone here is "called out" for being unnecessarily snarky

As per everything else, a few bad apples ruin it for everyone.
It wouldn't make sense to have eternal editing privileges here.

Of course there's a limited need for some editing. Some people hit send before finishing a thought, or need to correct a mistake. . . all things that can be done immediately after posting.

Oh, Lord. The Dark Side of the Purse Forum.

That is what I mean by editing. In my own case, usually typos. Or something I forgot. And sometimes it takes me more than a half hour to remember and/or notice it, so yes, those "bad apples" cause me great distress.

Editing out snark. Hmmph.

I think 30 minutes is ample time. If someone needs a thread title edited just contact a mod

And yes, we do have some snarky posts, and it is best everyone thinks before they post and is ready to let all see their words- typos, snark, and all.

LOL!
I actually want to leave my typos sometimes because they're inadverdently hilarious sometimes!

But I edit anyhow. . . .

I don't mind all seeing my typos, Megs, it is me seeing them that bothers me. :P

And I would never edit out snark! It is the proud bedrock of the TV and Celebrity Forums!

It makes me sad that people here would abuse the editing function.

Shimma, I totally get it, but for us this is the best set up. I even prefer the 15 min time slot rather than 30.

LOL Megs, I am very grateful for the 30 minutes. I am a veritable Oliver Twist of gratitude, and Swanky has opened my eyes to the difficult situation you face, and I should probably not be surprised, human nature being what it is. Sigh.

Nooooo, I love the 30 minutes. Sometimes I want to add pictures to my original post or fix a picture that doesn't look good once it is posted and I used to feel like I was racing the clock. Having 30 minutes makes my life less stressful!!!

Personally I think you shouldn't be able to edit a post after someone else has replied in the same thread.
