I can understand the reasoning behind doing this, it just sucks. It's horrible that there is bullying that happens in the real world on a day to day basis, but the fact that people have to be bullies via the internet just goes to show what sort of society we live in today. People need to cool down and take a break and realize that they were once a newbie too! Yes, it's frustrating to see a thread that's already been posted about 48029382 times because some one new didn't know how to do a search. But, oh well, post under their thread, the answer they're looking for, re-direct them to the search for next time and hit the alert button so that a mod can be notified to merge a new thread with an existing old one. End of story, and this way, the newbie learns too! I'm sure it's not just threads that more established members are annoyed about, but, whatever their problem, it can't really be that serious for the need to bully others!

i was just about to make a thread about this glad its not everyone

i guess its good... if there is bullying of new people...

but the vets... are sorta overlooked. i always looked at level of membership and post counts as a form of seniority.

Great. Now we all have to play "detective". One vote not in favor. The Post/Date count has been helpful on every forum (not too many) I've been on so there is that. I find it benefits more than it deters. Just my two cents.

thanks for the info. i just noticed it and had been wondering.

while i'm sad to see it go, i understand if it's needed. i've noticed that on certain sub-forums, newbies start threads asking for advice and sometimes a few people are so quick to make assumptions that it's a troll or that they're secretly trying to sell something (especially if their English isn't very good). i too find that highly annoying!! it's quicker to just assume that its just a newbie geniuninely interested in some advice and either ignore the post or jot down a quick response, than to start posting accusatory comments. not only does it start unnecessary drama but it discourages people that are new to the forum from posting.

Well, Vlad did say it's a test to see how well we do without the counts.

If it helps cut down on the bullying, fine, i can live without.... but if we do the same, can we have them back?

I like to think that someone who sees my replies can see that i'm an established member and that i'm a regular....that my posts can be trusted, y'know?

And like everyone says... if someone has a lower post count/new join date, i can give advice & tailor the reply better.

JMHO...but it seems we have a lot more problems with trolls then people bullying newbies. I think it's a very bad idea.

Wow, that's really sad that members are not being welcoming and helpful to newer people. Maybe rather than taking the post count and join date off for everyone, the people who are doing the bullying can be warned and after a certain # of offenses, they are penalized in some way. Just a thought.

It's a purse forum, people! The bullying and hazing should've ended in adolescence. Bad karma, too.

The info's still available, it's just not as obvious. Hopefully from now on everyone can follow the Golden Rule and keep TPF a great place to spend time on!
This is totally OT but your avatar is so cute!

I haven't noticed any bullying, probably because I've been hanging out in the beauty bar and p&p sections. I really hope it stops. Bullying is bad mmmmkay?

it's actually really sad people. I have to remind people pretty often to back off the newbies and stop accusing them of being trolls or spammers just because they join and ask about a website or something.
Also, in some authenticity threads the "vets" are in some kind of bizarre 'turf wars' and don't like other's to help authenticate . . . WTF?

I didn't know Vlad was going to disable it, but I can definitely see how it could possibly improve the response to our newer members.

Well, personally, I think it is a damn shame, Swanky. As a newbie just a few months ago, I LOOKED to the older members for advice and guidance. And as a "still sorta newbie with too many posts!", I have done my best to welcome and guide newer members. I do agree that "post count" does NOT signify ability to authenticate. I can "toast" some fakes, but would never auth. BUT.. removing the post count does not aid in that respect. Newbies now cannot see WHO is an "older authenticator" and who is not. If anything, this now leaves them open to bad advice, IMO.
And I have to say that AS A NEWBIE, I did look at post count/join date when considering reponses from other members. IMO, removing the post/join date leaves the newbies open to possible poor advice, as they will now have no clue whether the responses are from a SENIOR authenticator or a newbie like themselves. And newbies are not likely to know to research the advisor and check post/join date.
Sorry... bad idea IMO. I think the post/join needs to stay... especially to show WHO has been around the longest when it comes to authentications and advice. I would certainly value YOUR opinion over someone who joined 3 weeks/months ago. But NOW.. I will not know that. And the "bullys" need to "get a grip". Spoken as a recent "newbie". And no offense intended.
WTF is right!

IMHO showing the post count & join date is more beneficial than detrimental.

But you see, that could be a bit of a problem. Because A post count doesn't tell you if the posts were of substance or not.
There are lots of people who just get their post number up by posting everywhere 'nice bag' or playing games in the board game section. That big number doesn't mean they have more knowlegde than say someone who lurks but only posts when they have something of substance to say.
(not to say 'nice bag isn;t legit -- I'm talking about those who JUST do it for a number boost).
And there shouldn't be a hierarchy as someone else mentioned - this is a chat forum for Pete's sake.

I do appreciate though that we can still see the number somewhere.
This will be especially helpful when I see someone on eBay say 'TPF' member and then I come here and see they've been a member for 2 days with 1 post.

I've seen on the H forum when it is someone's first post, there will be "welcome" posts that follow and hopes that they will continue to post, etc. This sort of welcome will not be feasible with the new system.

I think when a new name is seen, it is pretty obvious that they are a newbie ... either by what they posted or that the name is not familiar. So, I'm not sure how much this measure will help. Bottom line is, it's a shame that people are not being welcoming to newbies....
Agree w/ you

Valid point Nyria, i was on the side of seeing alot of posts as meaning more knowledge, but it can be deceptive. Proper homework would be reading back the Auth threads and seeing who was posting alot of helpful knowledge etc, rather than just their 2 cents.
