I'll all up for a separate sub forum too. I don't wanna scroll down through countless PS threads trying to find something health and fitness related.

I totally support making a subforum for cosmetic procedures
But just because I love me some stats, I just counted. There's only 10 out of 50 threads on the 1st page about cosmetic procedures/surgeries. I was expecting much worse.

Swanky - It's almost always 10-12. I noted that in a previous post. But they do stay pretty high up, so if you look at top 20 or 25 on the page, which a lot of people, especially on mobile devices do, I think they probably comprise at least a third of threads most of the time.

16 minimum out of 50 on the front page this morning are about elective surgery

Funny the resistance of some to NOT have a seperate sub-forum. Most people on tPF campaign for their favourite brand or subject to have a whole section devoted to their devoted topic of conversation. Seems there many who are interested in elective surgery who are uncomfortable with it not being under the guise of Health and Fitness. Perhaps, if elective surgery were in a seperate thread people interested in it would have to face up to the reality of what they are contemplating and that it's not a part of health, fitness or mainstream beauty (although it is more apart of the beauty biz than H&F).

Is there resistance? I hadn't really noticed, I thought everyone in this thread was pretty much in agreement - including myself{?}

I know there was some last time it was brought up, but I haven't seen anyone resisting it really now. Those threads are no longer current that were started about this before; like all our forums it literally changes all the time. So some days it seems like plastic surgery threads are "taking over", other days it's only 10% of the 1st page.

I don't think there's any resistance in this thread, but I imagine there would be if discussion were opened in that forum.

One thing I've noticed is that nearly all of those threads are about the face ... eyes, nose, lips, chin. And almost all of them are discussing procedures and clinics in East Asian countries. I haven't really seen any on liposuction, breast augmentation or any other common procedures in Western cultures.

The only way I would consider any procedure Health and Fitness related would be if they dealt with injuries/accident recovery or illness that affected breathing or some other life function. I haven't seen anything like that. They're all cosmetic/appearance related.

I've noticed links (hyperlinks?) for Drs and clinics and for email within several of those threads, which looks suspiciously like advertising.

OK, sorry, don't mean to to travel backwards. Like Echoes I also anticipate arguments ahead as well as in the past.

Check out (or maybe don't) the latter pages of how to make my calves thinner thread, it's beyond masochism (IMHO) . Many comments are recovering op stories recanting that their legs and feet are badly swollen, cant walk (or not without limping) the pain. One person says to another who is worried about her recovery that the good news is that the longer it takes to recover the better the results might be. The old thread started years ago with advice on try yoga or Pilates is now an advertising for mostly one dr and his clinic and also a nearby hotel and I also speotted a personal email.

Body or face - still nothing to do with health or fitness. I think It's to do with trying to conform to an impossible aesthetic that has nothing to do with reality. With hard work and perseverance with diet and excersize people can get close to their goals regarding body without resorting to surgery but that's up to person I guess. And a lot of the face stuff seems to do with defying a certain normal racial features (rather than making the most of those features, which I hope is more what is in the beauty sub-forums) and that is a whole other question or should I say minefield.

Let's not start demeaning people in those threads - not productive

We won't open it up for discussion in there as the only 2 people that need to decide is Megs and Vlad.
I still think it belongs in H&F and not Beauty Bar because it's surgery. I think it just needs it's own sub there
Also, plenty of breast aug, lipo, etc. . . threads in the forum, I promise!

As far as advertising, please report it if you see it. I can't think of any mods that are hanging out on those threads to catch it themselves I/we do, however, look at every reported post.

I gave up years ago on trying to keep people's e-mails out of there.

*I'm off to sweet talk M&V now for a new sub!!*

Did the health and fitness forum itself disappear? I don't see it under the playground anymore.

I'm on my iPad if it matters.
