Default Is there only a certain amount of smilies per session?

I love using smilies but sometimes at the end of the day when I've been a bit 'smiley-happy', my smilies stop working and all I'm left with are the special characters like this for a big smile when I click on that smiley, for example.

So I was wondering, are the smilies rationed?

Now that's weird, because I actually typed in the punctuation for the 'big smile' (colon capital D) in the above lines and it's actually come up as a smiley face, BUT 10 mins earlier I was on a thread where I clicked on the 'big smile' smiley face and it came up as 'colon capital D'?

... what, did I kill my own thread?!

Just meant that sometimes when I want to use a smiley and click on it, what actually comes up in my reply is the punctuation (like colon capital D for a big smile smiley, for example). It's nothing to do with the caps lock or anything, and it's no big deal, but I've had it happen 3 times now and it seems to happen when I've already used a lot of smilies that day, so I was just wondering, that's all.

LOL!
There are a certain # of smilies per post, but it sounds like your computer is changing your puncuation{?}
I haven't heard anyone else w/ this issue.

Thanks SWof3, I was beginning to feel a leetle bit !!

It could be my computer, I'm a wee bit technologically challenged. Maybe it's trying to tell me something, like stop using so many smilies!!

it's 8 smilies per post. I'm not sure if this answers ur main question, but i notice the difference when you reply via 'post quick reply' or 'go advanced' <---this one shows all the codes.

^I agree, and I think it counts towards pictures, as well. I know that if I have one smiley and eight pictures, I'll have to get rid of the smiley or leave out that eighth pic. HTH!

The system does not distinguish between smiles and images. The maximum amount of any graphics per post is 8.

It's happened again to me today, and all I was putting up in one post was a 'big smile' smiley and this time it came up as a 'colon small d' ..!

Have you tried clearing the cache on your browser and restarting your computer? Sometimes that helps.

Fantastic! I did the above earlier, and you're right, it's solved the problem completely!

I am now back to my 'smiley' self again!

Many thanks!
