change my settings so that every time someone posts after I have I get an email to tell me about it. There is obviously something in my settings that I am missing. TIA.

Hi, go to Control Panel and then Settings & Options. Choose Edit Options and then under Messaging & Notification you'll find Receive Email and right under Default Thread Subscription Mode.

And after you find out how fast your email box gets filled up, you can go back to the same place and set 'No email notification'
