i don't think the seller is obligated for anything that comes of the bag once you use it. if she said it was colorfast and it wasn't, that's one thing. but i don't assume most things are colorfast. a lot aren't. i had a paloma picasso bag that was so nice, but it'd get wet and run brown dye all over my clothes. so i had to only take it out if i was sure if wouldn't rain, and i remember once at work, putting it in a garbage bag to take it home during a sudden shower.

i'd be possibly *disappointed* if something i bought started running, but it's not the seller's responsibility to only sell colorfast items. certain dyes/threads, etc just aren't colorfast.

if you get leather, cashmere, linen, satin, etc wet, it often does get ruined. i have a silk satin dress that has water stains from rain. not the fault of the maker/store, just bad luck on my part getting stuck in the rain with a delicate fabric.

For the cost, I really wouldn't expect too much from it unless the seller had made some claims about it. For that amount of money and the fact that it's a fabric bag, I would just let it go. Unless you were expecting a weather proof bag when you first bought it?

It's not like the seller made claims about the bag being waterproof. You received it in new condition and her responsibility ends there.

And you've used it for a bit before it was ruined. I say let it go.

I've heard from the seller this afternoon, she's been in touch with her supplier and they've offered her a half refund. So I'll get half the money back.

I agree. The bag she sold you was the bag pictured. When I sell items, once they are received by the buyer and the buyer acknowleges that, I release myself from any fault for them taking the bag out in the rain.
I'm really sorry you had to go through this, but I really don't think it's her fault at all.
It's like purchasing a white shirt and washing it with a red blanket. If my shirt comes out pink, how can I return it to the store for a manufacturer's defect?
I'm glad this worked out for you and I agree, the seller is very accomodating!

It is so not like this! Nothing I did caused it to go pink, it was an "act of God" if you will. Not my fault, not the sellers fault so 50% refund is about fair in my eyes.

Like I said the seller is VERY accommodating. I don't see her fault in this at all. I'm sorry.

I'm glad it worked out for you in the end too. I was just stating my opinion and agreeing with the statement I quoted, that the seller would be under no obligation to do anything in this circumstance.

I'm glad you solved this in a way that's works for both of you.

I guess there are far more differences between the US and Europe than I thought . Sometimes it seems to be better to buy within the EU.

glad you got it sorted, like i said earlier if this was bought from a shop they would have to accept it, she is a business seller so..... thats the name of the game

I'm glad you were able to work something out with the seller. I think it was a tough call - depending on what side of the transaction you were on. Ordinarily I would think the seller had no obligation to refund. I have good bags that would be damaged by rain - this is not unusual. The fact that this seller was a shop and sold so many similar bags made her a bit more responsible.

So glad you got the refund !.

The way I see it is, if the seller is a business seller and is selling multiple of these bags then she should be told that they are defective, its not like the buyer is buying a used bag and there is nothing they can do about it.

I dont think the OP can be at fault for wearing the bag out, she was in Spain and it doesnt have a large amount of rain especially in summer.
