If you have a wireless router, you need to lock it down - you can make it so that only your computer can connect to it, and so that the data transmitted via the router is encrypted. If it's not a wireless router, contact your internet service provider for assistance.

As for the ID theft - it is absolutely ID theft - I don't know how it works in the Netherlands, but here you can contact the credit reporting bureaus and have a fraud alert placed on your account, so that you will be alerted if anyone tries to open more credit in your name. I would also look into cancelling and replacing your current credit cards. Talk to your bank as well.

^ Then you need to lock down your wireless router by MAC address, so only your computer(s) can access it.

We had it as secure as possible, but according to our ISP, they are a group of hackers, which are very very good and there's nothing we could do about them, except get a new modem and hope it didn't happen again

How on earth did he get your SS#??? Now that is identity fraud. If he using your SS# as well as CC#, then yes, that is definitely identity fraud and I would turn this crook into your local authorities. He is obviously your neighbor if he is able to piggy-back onto your internet. Not cool.

He just basically hacked into your system/computer and went nuts!

I can't believe evilbay isn't doing more about this, as I would think this is a federal offense.

Implement a password onto your connection RIGHT AWAY. You obviously have an unsecure connection for this crook to piggy-back onto it.

EDIT: Never mind, I see with your above replies that it won't make a difference. Sorry about jumping the gun!

Good luck and very sorry that you are going thru this.
Yes, buy a Mac next time, and you won't have these issues.

Stuff like that is super easy to get around if the hacker knows what they are doing.

YEa hh got my SS# because I had to upload my ID to paypal, so I scanned the ID and put it on my computer, and don't know if it's a neigbour, could be anyone since he is using my IP but not my internet connection.

Already went to the authorities but they sadly can't do anything about it because it happened from my IP, so there is no way to track him/her

hiIt happened to me sometime ago. There is a special department in eBay that deals with identity theft issues. I suggest you to contact them as soon as possible if you haven't done that already. On the other hand, even though I have no reason not to believe you,it's somehow strange that they were selling goods and then they were sending them to buyers. If this is the case I guess they are easily track able.Good luck!

I know they were selling counterfeit goods, but don't know if they actually send them....

If they were getting positive feedbacks which you can check it's more likely that they were actually sending these fakes to buyers. If this is true I think they can be tracked easily. You can suggest this to police so they could check this out.

The account has been blocked last night, and I found out this morning, so can't check have to wait on eBay staff to assist me in this case. But will check if they actually send something.
