Default Why don't people like shipping to Germany?

I'm in the USA, but I've noticed a bunch of auctions I've looked at say: "no shipping/sales to Germany!"

Why is that? Just curious...

There has been a rash of difficult bidders from Germany. I've never had a bad experience and ship there but I know that many sellers have. Also, I think some sellers have had problems with packages getting lost. Usually though if you nicely ask a seller and explain that you have good feedback and will pay for EMS, they may let you bid. Hard to say. It is too bad though because eBay is pretty big in Germany and I've had some great experiences dealing with people there. LOL, there is a whole street in Berlin that I swear I've shipped to everyone on it!

Of course! Many sellers do. It just seems that you've encountered one of the few who don't.

From my personal experience, for some reason Germany is extremely expensive to ship to (more than any other Western European country) and they get charged crazy customs amounts and then try to hold you responsible!!! (this has happened to me 3 times) So that's why I wont ship to Germany.

I've heard this as well, and I've had problems too..
Back when I occassionaly sold internationally, 2 out of the three times I dealt with Germany winners, they were problems.

And then the worse experiance was with a German lady who BIN'd on an item, though she knew that I don't ship international. I wouldn't ship to her and refunded her money. She refused to sign a mutual transaction withdrawl and then left me bad feedback..
I posted about this episode..
Im wrapping up my selling on eBay but,
If I ever do ship internationally again, I will not include Germany in the countries Ill ship too, as my experiances have been headaches.

I have shipped to Germany and haven't had any problems yet......hopefully I won't. I do think they get charged quite a bit for an import tax like someone else said. I"ve also seen where people won't ship to Italy...........wonder if it's for the same reason or if there are a bunch of scams that come out of there?

Italy is because their Customs and Postal system are out on break all day. It takes forever for packages to get there, and when they do get there, things are missing or something bad has happened. Also, you can't ship leather goods into Italy, which does away with bags and shoes and such. I've never had a problem with my Italian bidders, but I always ship EMS there.

Oh no, I hope not every seller will stop shipping to Germany. Customs is ridiculously high, but most buyers know about that before they buy. I have bought from so many wonderfull US sellers since 2002 without any problems. Well... I was sent a fake LV wallet, but that was not my fault .

I always calculate customs into the highest amount I'm willing to pay and bid accordingly. It is always the buyers responsibilty to pay for tax and customs. I'm sorry had unpleasant experiences with buyers from Germany.

I'm in Canada and I have shipped to Germany several times and found them to be the most courteous buyers of all. I have provided tracking and found their packages to arrive in 1 week! (Don't know why so fast!) Any problems I've had with buyers and items going "missing" have been in the US. (Takes 2 weeks or more to arrive too!)

That is so nice to say. I just got a package from Australia today and it took only five days. Everythings pretty fast right now.

Every country has good and bad buyers and sellers. Nobody needs the bad ones, but I hope the good can make up for the bad.
