Don't have much time but wanted to update you -talked to an adviser on the phone, told me yes it must've been a glitch, don't worry we'll sort it out. Unfortunately I got not only but but TWO emails from different advisers stating that eBay "is not an escrow service" and that they are not accepting my claim regardless. I have now asked my bank to chargeback my card.

Hi all, now I have some time I'd like to give you a proper update:

As I said, I had to contact my bank to do a charge back. I feel totally let down on Paypal and haven't even gone onto eBay ever since. Sigh. Even though I do not blame them for what happened, I feel they were extremelly incompetent and unwilling to aid with the matter. I received about 6 emails from them and all were impersonal, "copy-and-paste" pieces of text that had nothing to do with my question. Not to mention they keep refering to me as "MISTER ___" (my account name clearly states MISS ____").

This is the last email I received, before deciding to contact my bank-
PayPal is not the venue that lists the item and we do not act as an escrow service. Because an item is not advertised or listed by our service, we are not in the position to verify the quality of an item delivered as opposed to what was advertised. We recommend first contacting the seller's customer service email address. You may wish to contact your auction site regarding the dispute; as the venue that lists the item, they may be able to help you or contact a third party mediator, such as Square Trade.

All in all it was a terrible experience. But I learnt from my mistakes and if/when I buy something from eBay again, I will stay clear from "bargain" shops in the fast east (no offence to anybody in those countries. My point is that it is difficult to recover the money from a country on the other side of the world... heck, it even cost a fortune to send back the item!. I wouldn't choose to deal with a seller from, let's say, Australia either for the same reason).

Thank you all again for the help, this forum is amazing.

Ok, but I am confused. Did they correct the mistake that this was a eBay transaction and not a non-eBay transaction? Then they still told you no-go??

What a crock of _ _ _ _!!!!!

What a saga! Thanks for posting, I have learned from your experience. So far, the only items I've bid on from other countries, I've been outbid. After reading this thread, I'm buying from the US and the UK.
