i love how ebay reckon the number of NPBs haven't increased since they changed the FB policy - yeah right, I would love to see the real stats on that - just come and look at my auctions

Update on the case. This is what I recieved today from one of non-payers 5 days after she won the auction:
"I sent you a message before that I was bidding on quite few of your items, hope to win them all and save some money on shipping (international shipping is very expensive) but unfortunately I was only won this oilily dress. Consider the expensive shipping from overseas I would like to cancel this transaction and I'll send you $3.00 for the listing fees you paid to eBay. You can either offer to second higher bidder or relist it on eBay. Hope this is acceptable. Thanks"

I am actually inclined to give her a strike. Or shall I calm down and mutually cancel the transaction? Can't believe the nerve of some people!

Exactly!!! I got so frustrated after this non pay bidder situation(threaten to call police if I email him about the transaction again) I think I'm quitting the evilbay soon...there are so many rediculous people out there, and I shouldn't be waisting my time with them at all.

I'm so mad about this today.

Oh dear, sorry to hear that.

As she offered to cover your fees, I'd probably let it go, if I were you, but others may well disagree!

From years of selling I have learned that there are a lot of people who do not know what the rules, policies and etiquette is for eBay. We pay immediately after purchasing, but knowing what goes on in people’s lives, we are not concerned until 7 days, and even then, not concerned, just figure someone forgot.

Many people use their computer from work. They buy and go home for the night or weekend and it slips their mind. With many thousands of sales, we have less than 10 who never actually paid. Our first UPI was actually our second sale on eBay. He just disappeared and eBay removed them from the system.

On another the person’s room-mate had to get back to us because our buyer had truly died. From having sold her other things, we knew she was in ill-health, so we inquired about payment gently. Another had gone through a miscarriage but eventually completed the transaction.

Maybe they transfer money into an account when they buy but they bought on impulse, so it took a few days to work the transfer. Maybe they want to buy with a different credit card because it is a surprise for someone who sees the other account, maybe there was a glitch in PayPal, not that this ever happens, maybe ….. (there are hundreds, if not thousands of possibilities why they may not pay immediately, but have every intention of paying)

Since we don’t send items until payment is confirmed, it is just an irritation. From having a real store, I can easily say that customers who are live and in person can be far worse. We built our internet reputation as being a warm and friendly place to shop.

We treat everyone like they are our neighbor and we will see them again and again. In fact, we have a number of customers we have come to know well and they invite us to their homes should we ever be in their part of the world.

You sound like a great seller, eg!

Good to hear that buyers haven't suddenly started bidding and not paying left, right and centre!

I haven't listed anything on eBay for years and certainly nothing since the fb change; but when I did sell a few (30 something) things, I didn't have one NPB.

One buyer didn't pay for over a fortnight (they then, casually, said they had been on holday [vacation]!), but that was it.

I certainly, from my very limited experience, found dealing with buyers far less stressful than dealing with some sellers!

The only thing that stressed me out, slightly, was someone complaining about the shipping fee; especially as I didn't make one penny from it (I pack very well and always send things insured and signed-for).

But now, I doubt that would even bother me much.

Your post is the sort of thing I want to hear, after all the complaints about buyers and horror stories - all the good parts of selling on eBay.

I think bad buyers and sellers gravitate to the higher end products. While we have sold $13,000+ items and others in the thousands, we do not specialize in a category that experiences the fraud like electronics, jewelry and designer items seems to attract. It is a tough one.

That is not to say there are not many many good people in these categories, but the opportunity to "make a killing" brings out the "badies" and they get the most publicity.

Wow, it's pretty good that this buyer actually offered to pay your listing fees! I've NEVER had anyone offer that. Before last month, it wasn't a problem (last time I sold stuff before last month was a year ago), but when I came back to ebay last month, I would say about half of my items had to be relisted because of non-paying buyers. It's not the fees, because fvf are credited back to me, but it's the time that makes it aggravating!

I agreed to cancel the transaction as at least she had the nerve to contact me. I don't think I will hear from her again though.

Is this applicable worldwide or just in the US?

^ This is a good question - come to think of it, I don't know?

Often these new rules are rolled out on the US site before they are on the sites in rest of the world.

Could still be 7 days, for both of us, then?

I had 3 unpaids out of the blue last week. Just amazing. Have had a good run up until this week! I hope it settles down again soon.

I sympathize with you OP -- I haven't had any problems with non-payers since early summer, and now all of a sudden I had 4 in one week!

My favorites were the people who replied to the unpaid item case against them with responses that said the following:

"I'm not going to pay. Your item is a fake."

"I'm not going to pay, I wanted this bag to match some shoes I was bidding on, and I didn't win the shoes."

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.
