I'm usually doing 2 things, watching it because I'm thinking it over and watching it to see if the price is lowered. Usually if I'm on the fence and I see the price go down that cinches it, I decide to take the leap and purchase it. I never watch unless I'm considering purchasing, I just haven't made that final decision yet.

I watch BIN because sometimes I will watch it expire and then see if they relist...
or I watch it to have it in my list in case I see one that's not BIN and compare them
or I watch it to see what a going rate is and note it, and note the seller's info down if they don't relist and I'm interested THEN in doing a BIN...

exactly! and IMO most of the BIN's that i look at are not deals at all! the prices are so inflated. i saw one earlier with a wallet that i wanted to match a dooney bag that i have. i was willing to buy the purse that was offered with it - until i read the person's description claiming that the checkbook cover by itself cost $700!!!!! that is a bald face lie and they know it so i chose to leave it alone. i don't like people that lie in their listings and make outrageous claims to get you to BIN!

Default On alot of Ebay items people are just watching to see if it sells I always have
7 to 12 watchers on certain items but the item doesnt sell.So Im guessing people with similiar things to sell are gauging prices they should list things at

Sometimes I watch an item just out of curiousity--to see how much it sells for. Or I watch to see if the price changes or gets relisted.

I've had buy-it-now auctions that sat there for days with no questions but lots of watchers. I changed the selling format on some of those auctions and got bids.

Mine is ending in 40 minutes. 20 watchers and no BIN. Frustrating. I want to disable the "watching" feature so I don't get my hopes up in the future :(

It's also hard to not be a smarta$$ when someone contacts me a day after a BIN auction ends to ask me if I still have the item. I usually respond with "Yes, I do, why?" I really want to say "It's not like you wanted it when you could have had it, but now that it's no longer listed you want it. Bite me :)" I refuse to relist because someone asks me to. Chances are they won't want it again and then I get to eat the relisting fee.

You know, I was just going to add to my original comment...the thing that really gets me is when I have the best offer/BIN up, get TONS of watchers but not ONE offer. I mean, really? What is that about? My prices are not inflated compared to what others have sold for very recently, if any have sold at all. I'm mostly selling my mom's stuff right now and it's not like I have much to go on, price-wise, besides the retail. But boy do I have the watchers.

I also noticed that once, I lowered the price and LOST watchers.

I think some people are just fans of a certain brand (or sellers of the brand) and watch to see how the auction goes.
Sometimes I watch if I have the same or similar item I plan to list.

Or, I may watch your item because I have the same thing and want to see what yours ends up selling for.
I also do this. But it is a pain when I have numerous watchers but no buyers. I also watch because I need time to get the money before I buy. I recently had a "watcher" ask if I was going to relist my bag because they were going to their paycheck after my listing ended.

Mostly to think it over or to see if I win something similar cheaper. Now and then it's an "if I win item X, item Y would go great with it", so I'll wait and see if I win one befre buying the other.

Sometimes I watch just to see if someone is crazy enough to pay that for a particular item. Or to see if it will actually sell at a certain price so I know what to expect if I decide to list something like it.

I usually add BIN items to my watch list, so it's easy to come back to it later. I like to think about purchases, and it's an easy way to get back then having to search for it. However, I hate when I'm watching something that's BIN, and I look at it later, and it says 'ended'

I watch buy it now items but not on purpose...I actually like to bid on items more (just preference). I don't expect sellers to lower the prices but I feel that ppl sometimes do that to my auctions...

I use the watching like bookmarks and I tend to bookmark a lot of things. I'm super picky and do a lot of online shopping and research. So i'll check prices for similar items or do my own kind of authentication on items.

I'm usually not hoping that the price drops. I've only ever watch stalked 1 or 2 items for that purpose. I will leave things in my watching to remind myself.

Frequently I am trying to choose between a bunch of similar items - red purses for ex. or between getting say a new wallet or a purse. I'll just watch all of them and then decide.
