Default Was I wrong to relist?

I had a buyer place a best offer on one of the items I was selling. I accepted and informed the buyer on the invoice that payment was due in 24 hours (this was also stated in the listing). She had a non-paying bidder strike filed against her recently. Because she didn't pay within the time frame allowed, I relisted the bag the next day and sold it. The orginal bidder then contacted me after the fact to make payment arrangements. I apologized and told her the bag had already been sold.

Was it wrong of me to have it relisted so soon?

I have to say yes it might have been too hasty. She could report you for this, eBay allow longer than 24 hours for payment.

I have to say yes also, eBay allows up to 7 days to pay.

I agree that things are so iffy on eBay these days that it is extremely tempting to sell to someone who wants to pay you immediately, particularly when you state your terms in your listing. However, eBay would side with the buyer in this case if she wanted to report you. They definitely allow seven days for the buyer to pay regardless of your stated terms. I have always played it safe and not sent a Second Chance Offer until I have filed an NPB dispute (8 days after the auction ends). However, I have emailed an interested bidder to let her know that she may receive an SCO. If she really wants the item, she may be willing to wait for it.

You might have jumped the gun a bit but the buyer were at fault too for not paying within the time frame stated in your TOS. She might report you as a non-performing seller to eBay and/or giving you a negative.

So when I state in my listing that the buyer must pay within 48 hours... it's not anything I can expect?

^ You can state what you want, however the buyer has the full 7 days to pay, regardless.

No, it isn't. Unfortunately, eBay makes the rules, and they state that a buyer has a week to pay you. Buyers know this, and they will take full advantage of those days.

If the buyer wound up paying you within those 7 days and you didn't have the merchandise, they could report you as a non-performing seller.

I suppose you could decide to not sell if they don't follow your tos, but they can always report you as a non-p-s.

I think you might have been too hasty. I always say the 24 hour thing on my listings, but I always wait the full 7 days. I just don't want to risk getting in trouble in case they do decide to pay later.

I have to agree that you jumped the gun on this one. Unfortunately you can put that you require payment in 24 hours on your listing, but eBay allows 7 days. I know it stinks to have to wait the 7 days, but you kind of really should have. Not much you can do now. Hopefully the original buyer does not file a NPS on you. Anyway, you know better for next time.

I request payment within three days. I know sellers want payment immediately (and I love that as well), but it's just a bit unreasonable to expect payment in 24 hours.

While I pay immediately on most items, there are times when I'm just not home or can't get online to check ended listings and it takes a day or two to send in payment.

I would have at least waited a few days before attempting to relist.
