I have spent a lot of time thinking about the situation at
eBay and specifically about this situation over the past few days. I got a response this morning to a request to raise my selling limits on
eBay (the answer was "no" for now) and responded a lot differently than I probably would have earlier this week - especially after reading this thread.
I am a single mom of an 11 year-old, I receive no child support. I have a good job, but 11 year-old little girls are expensive, especially when they start needing braces and want to go to camp, etc. I have sold on
eBay, on and off, for 4 years and made a decent amount of money to supplement my income. My daughter wants to go on a group trip to Washington DC in a few weeks, so I took a couple of days off work this past week to list some items I've accumulated over the past year, but hadn't had time to list. The first item went in fine, but then when I went to list the second, the selling limit issue kicked in. I was able to list about every other item I wanted to, then finally grew tired of wasting time typing, measuring, etc., only to get the message that due to the selling limits my auction would not run. (They need a way to tell you before you waste all of that time.) I finally got so fed up I started looking around the web to find out what was going on. That's when, through
eBay's boards, you, and several other web sites, I found out what's going on. Then, I stumbled on this thread. This thread specifically made me realize something I already knew - that honest sellers (any buyers) really will go out of their way to keep the selling sites free of counterfeiters - but the sites don't do a lot to let us contribute. I know that they have retaliation to work around, but even someone who's doing such would be easy to pick out of the crowd after awhile, it they were constantly making false reports.
So, after spending several hours last night reading this thread and seeing all the work that the members here did to help those who were scammed AND to help identify, not once, but twice, the person behind it all, I sent
eBay a response this morning basically telling them that they seem to have forgotten just how tight the buying and selling community really is and why not allow them a chance to help out with something other than canned responses. It may or may not help change the way they are handling the situation, but at least I know I've made a positive suggestion to help remedy a really bad situation.
I'm so glad there are groups such as this one, outside of the selling sites, that the members are willing to help keep things honest - and to provide support to those who've been duped by these professional crooks. It sounds like Pretty*Bubbles is going to make a lifetime career out of stealing from innocent people. The more people (like everyone here) are on the lookout, the less damage she will be able to do overall. I think it would be a good idea to send someone, probably the OK DA, the info regarding how the names on the deed to her house have been changed. This is fraud, animals can't own property. Remember when Leona Helmsley left a ton of money to her cat? The court had to name a "human" to receive/manage the money because animals can't have assets.
Anyway, I know this is supposed to be about purses, but it restores my faith in people overall, that out of something seemingly so "frivilous" as purses, something else really good is happening here.
