I posted in the *authenticate* thread about a pair of passmule zeppa wedges I had found on craigslist. They were confirmed authentic and I was really interested in them...I emailed the seller and they said that they didnt take paypal because they werent really familiar with how to use it, etc...she offered to ship them to me and once I get them to just send her a cashiers check/money order.
she seemed really friendly through emails, quick to respond, answered all my questions and seemed legit. So I went for it. I gave her an address to send them to and gave her other information about myself including my phone number...being as i havent sent any money I dont think I can be scammed? has anyone else successfully been through a transaction like this? im just worried something might go wrong, please give me some input. Please tell me about any successful (or unsuccessful) transactions you've been involved in that have taken place off ebay. TIA! |

^^I haven't had any experiences w/ craig's list with Loubies period but I have had good experiences w/ Craig's List on other things. Personally, it sounds like this person is taking a huge risk sending the item to you and going off of the honor system that you will send her money. I don't see any reason for you to get scammed since you haven't sent her money and you hopefully haven't given her anything she couldn't find off of the internet (name, phone # and address). I wouldn't be concerned unless you gave her really private information, which it doesn't sound like you did.

I've never done a transaction like that, usually sellers that I have dealt with who didn't take Paypal asked me to send the money order first and when they got the money they would then send my shipment...
Worse comes to worst, you haven't sent them any money and they agreed you wouldn't have to until you received the shoes, so personally I'm thinking you should be ok. |

Good luck, let us know about the shoes - if they turn out to be the real deal or not.

Wow, actually the Seller seems really trusting. If you have authenticated them, you should be more than fine as she is sending them out first & then letting you pay for them. Good luck.

She seems nice, and really trustworthy. The shoes might have been relatively inexpensive ($200) to her, so maybe she figured it would be worth the gamble of not having to pay paypal fees and what not. I did give her traceable information to me like my office address and stuff so maybe she feels like if she doesnt get her money, she'd be able to track me down.
It really seems to good to be true...im interested in seeing if these show up...if they do, it will seriously be the steal and the deal and the easiest transaction of the century. |

Honestly? I wouldn't have done it. A lot of scammers "seemed to be so nice" until they take your money and run or send you a trashed or fake item. Sending a check or wiring money is the best, surest way to lose that money. And giving away personal info (like a phone number when the person already has your name, address and email is bad idea.
I truly hope you got lucky with a decent seller and will have no problems. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

I just finished a transaction on craiglist. I had an item listed on eBay and a woman wrote and asked it that was all I had of that kind. I told her that I had had some others listed, but eBay took them down. I did not tell her anything else.
I had them listed on craigslist, she went looking, connected my area and asked if she could send a check. I gave her my address, she sent the check, I sent the item and she wrote to tell me when she got it and that she loved it. It was a very positive transaction. I have only ever sold 3 things on cl and they were cash on pickup. I think that you have a very trusting seller to send you the shoes before she got paid. I don't see a downside for you. |

^^Agreed. I dont see how anything could go wrong for you. I am shocked shes willing to ship the item with no money sent. Weird.

Forgive me here, but am I the only one seeing the entire part of her having your info? Yes they get most when paying with PayFoe, but somehow this just sets off alarms in my head. I really hope I am wrong.

^ Ditto. Who in their right mind would send a $200 pair of shoes to a stranger without payment?

I only use craigslist local only. (People list very nice stuffs in NYC. BTW) Never extend beyond that. Just too risky to deal with total strangers.
Strange.... but you are going to receive the shoes first. So I think you should be OK. Good luck. |

^ Me too. I use craigslist for local sales only, done in person and with cash--nothing that has to be shipped.

I will add that I was able to google her name, and came up with a few articles re: her and her family...NO, im not crazy, but I wanted to see if this woman had a reputation of scamming, or if there was anything boldly negative that a quick google search would find.
What did come up where a few things (i wont go into details, to give her privacy), and some of the things that she mentioned via email had matched exactly what the articles had said...ie! where some family members where from, the line of work they did, etc, etc...not word for word, but just some things she mentioned in passing. |
