i don't think ama is asking if she SHOULD have had to pay customs rather if that much on a bag of that price is normal.

and ps- she asked YOU to call usps? are you kidding? as a seller i always do the follow up not ask my buyers to.

^ I'm in Canada, but I paid $365 customs on a bag from the UK, so I would consider yourself lucky! I filed a claim with Customs though, and I will be getting a partial refund on it, they overvalued my bag.

i would feel the same way as my only experience is with let-trade too.
and yes, $80 customs sounds WAY too much to spend. I would dispute this with customs, if you are intending to keep the bag.

I have learned my lesson and that is I will never purchase another thing outside the United States. As far as this bag goes- when my Italian temper calms down- I will apologize to this little thing and hope she will forgive me

Customs are import taxes levied by the recipients country, not the shippers country. It really is not the sellers responsibility to disclose this in their description. It's something you have to take into consideration when bidding on bags sold by eBayers outside of the US. The US actually has pretty relaxed procedures. It's hit and miss but your chances of being hit with customs on personal imports is actually pretty low in the US compared to other countries. Canada is the worst, and the UK is probably #2.

I guess if that was the case I wouldnt have paid the 80$ and accepted it from the delivery guy. it would have been sent back to the sender.

LOL! Yes, don't take it out on the poor bag. Who knows, it will probably bring you years to joy.

BTW, don't give up on buying from outside of the US. You are more likely not to get hit with customs charges.

The seller did sound rude and very unwilling to help! Can't believe it'd take so long for delivery from UK to US. When did she post it?

Customs is the buyer's responsibility though. This needs to be factored in when purchasing from international sellers. You can't blame the seller for that.

$80 is a lot for a $345 bag! Can you take that up with customs?! It shouldn't matter how much the bags is *worth*. They should go buy the purchase price!

i would take it up with customs.

i think a lot of posters are getting caught up in thir idea that she did not want to pay customs. i think the point is after a month of waiting and being treated not nicely by the seller it finally came with a - to me- truly astronomical customs fee. i too would have refused it but who knows, i might have felt i had to pay it. either way i would be furious. and i'm not even italian

Also the seller isnt responsible for the mail service. If customs has it there is nothing the seller can do.

I think the hold up was customs and if they did have it there is no reason for the seller to refund the money. the bag arrived just as in the auction.
So unless the bag arrived with holds or not as stated in the auction the bag is now the buyers.

the buyer doesnt have a claim that mail took too long, none of use have control over that. We also dont have control over customs charging us or not.
Regardless of what the seller put on the customs form, unless it was valued more then the auction its not her issue. If she claimed 800$ for a bag that she got 300$ and the buyer had to pay customs on that i could see there being issues. But claiming the price of the auction that is only fair, more so if there is insurance on the bag. If i paid 300$ for a bag and they only claimed 100$ and it got lost i'd be out money and not happy.

Again the seller had nothing to do with customs or if they charge you, that is out of their control.
So asking for a refund based on you having to pay customs fees or because customs held the bag for a few weeks isnt going to happen.

what did you paiy for the bag?
did she put the value at what you paid ? If so you need to contact customs, give them the information regarding what you paid for the bag(paypal info) and ask for a refund or part and see what they say.
