Default Threatened with a negative for something I didn't do!

I am very familiar with Paypal's seller protection policies. I have confirmed with three different Paypal employees that a buyer's eBay and Paypal e-mail address MUST match OR a buyer's ebay and Paypal mailing address MUST match. I have bolded this in my auction and this is the only thing I have bolded.

Today, I had to refund a buyer his money because I needed his shipping or e-mail addresses to match and I would be able to confirm this with a new payment. He e-mailed me and told me he believed I was refunding payment because my item was sold lower than he thought I wanted for it. I told him this wasn't the case and to please add his eBay e-mail address to his Paypal account and resend the funds to me. He said if I don't accept his payment again, he will leave me negative feedback. He said this hasn't happened to him before on ebay and thinks I'm having seller's remorse.

By the way, I was FUMING when I read his nasty e-mail about leaving me negative feedback. He's a new ebayer (at least his account is new) and he said he's spent a lot of money on eBay and this has never happened to him before. I took a couple minutes away from the computer and wrote a very nice and professional e-mail back to him, stating to contact Paypal if he needs to confirm their terms and to resend the money at his convenience.

If I get a negative, there's nothing I can do about it, huh? Am I being unreasonable?

I'm not sure if there's much you can do about that...unfortunately sellers can't leave negative feedback nowadays. You can reply to the feedback you received though so that future buyers will guess what this is all about. Hope he calms down a bit soon! eBay is a dangerous place, and a kind tpFer pointed out to me that that may be why many are all so touchy, but I'd say either join tPf or don't shop on eBay if you can't deal with authenticity issues, etc., yeah?

I contacted Live Chat and they said that they take threats very seriously and if he doesn't pay because "he doesn't want to update his information," I can take action on him not paying and the negative feedback will most likely be erased. He said it's good I reported it now (which is the case in almost every thing!)

Thanks!!!

If he leaves a neg, you can leave a positive (since buyers can't receive negs these days -- how crazy is THAT???) with a comment like "buyer could not provide confirmed address". Then you can answer beneath his neg on your feedback page with your own comment stating the same thing. If you are a powerseller, call them and they will let you send to unconfirmed address I am pretty sure. You are supposed to be protected if you are a powerseller. About all that's good for....but you have to sign up for Powerseller Protection program.

I can understand the buyers frustration. I would have just shipped it.

I'm not losing $500.00 because I didn't follow Paypal's terms. But thanks for your help!

I'm starting to see this more and more as someone out to scam me.

First off, he's bought five things on eBay. They're all under $20.

Secondly, he keeps saying, "Well, I've never had this problem before. I've spent thousands of dollars on eBay and this is the first bad experience I've had." Either he had an account previous to this one or he's lieing. If he sends me the money, he's not a scammer. If he doesn't, then he is. He had a different city with ebay than he did with Paypal. Paypal said I won't be protected if they're not the same. I told him to add his ebay e-mail to Paypal and then to pay me. The message says he did and now wants to know what I want to do. (I told him to go ahead and pay me before!) He's either a scammer, dragging me along or just not very bright. Plus, the fact that the addresses or e-mails need to match are in my auction terms! He seems to not respond to that. Just, "This has never happened to me before. I've spent so much money on ebay. You're trying to get out of the auction."

What makes me go "Huh?" is that my item is the first high dollar item he's bought since he's been on eBay. Everything else has been under $20.

KEEP HIS THREATENING EMAIL. If he gives you a negative you can file to have it removed with a copy of that email. I have done it and the process is quick and painless.

BUT, if he said he will leave you negative if you don't accept his payment again than it shouldn't be any problem as long as his email or address matches right?

I would be friendly and tell him that the nature of eBay business these days requires you to be very careful and that you are sure he wouldn't want someone to rip him off either.

I hope he does leave you a negative, you can file a NON PAYING BIDDER and he WILL get a strike and than you can have his feedback removed.

*** that link is in your 'leave feedback' screen and under the particular transaction.

Did you check to see if he had other id's on eBay?? You can go to feedback page and click on more details. It will give their old user id. Sounds very fishy, and I would not let him scare me with threat of neg..Of course he could be scamming with someone else's ebay and/or paypal account. This happens all the time.

The address matches except for the city. I know it's frustrating that everything but the city is the same but Paypal said this needs to be the same or you're screwed. I'm not taking that chance, guy!

He didn't have an old ID (like he changed names). You would think that he would say, "I had another eBay ID where I spent thousands of dollars" instead of looking stupid where I can see he's only spent $100.

At first I was so mad and now I think he's acting like an idiot!
