Craigslist is a little difficult when it comes to selling high-end bags. I've had good luck selling a few LVs via Craigslist, but like everyone said, you're probably going to get more money off of eBay. I got flagged once for reposting my ad, which irritated me because there are fake spammers that post all the time!
![]() A couple things that really annoy me with Craigslist are the low-ballers who either try to offer an extremely unreasonable price (I get a LOT of those) or flakes who don't show up (VERY irritating, had that happen to me once). To get the most of my money, I will usually list the purse at a higher than my "actual" asking price...I haven't lost too much money this way and I get less ridiculous offers. If you do do the Craigslist route, be sure to take good pictures and have a good description of your handbag. A savvy buyer will know you're the real deal if you talk about the bag in great detail and back up its authenticity. Also, I highly encourage that when you set up a transaction, make sure you: ONLY accept cash (you never know if a check will bounce or if the money order is fraudulent) Have the other party willing to meet at a public area Bring a friend with you, if possible (I didn't bring a friend the last time I had a transaction, but we met at the mall, which was good) I've had a couple people from different areas ask if I could ship things I have listed, but I haven't done that...it's too risky for me. Has anyone else done that...? |

It's free, so it doesn't hurt to try Craigslist first. I would sell locally only, that way you can take cash only as payment. One of the problems is that is kind of like when you list an apt. for rent, some people don't show up--there's no deadline, like on eBay. You can help counteract this problem a bit with the wording you use to sell your bag. Play it up; convey a sense of "buy it now." If you don't sell it, then list it on ebay.

In my opinion, Craig's List is good only for larger items that you really don't want to have to deal with fees and/or shipping costs and hassles.
I have sold a few really heavy computers, an upholstered chair, and a table & chair set that my daughter outgrew. Otherwise, I can't imagine selling something like an expensive designer handbag. I agree with the above, that just opens up for all kinds of issues. Unfortunately with Craig's List, people will flag your post just for the heck of it. It sucks because you know your item is legit, but they for whatever reason don't like the competition so they flag it. No way for Craig's List to know that it's a scam or not, so they just pull it. A friend of mine is trying to sell his artwork on CL, but it keeps getting flagged and removed. We figure it's because there are other artists on there who are envious of his work and don't like the competition. But obviously, you can't be 100% sure.

I would not recommend CL. I have griped a few times around TPF about it. I only sold one coach wristlet, never used, for $10. People do not show up, people e-mail you and say they will buy 3 bags and a table for $20, people seem to think one season old gucci sunglasses should be the same price as ones from vera bradley ("they both come with a case."). I have been trying to sell 2 coach bags that I used 1x ea, a Kate Spade bag I used once, and a large burberry tote that I never used, and I just deleted all of my ads because I was so disgusted. I didn't price any of those bags higher than $75/reasonable offer since I am moving and just didn't want to take the stuff! I might try e-bay next. The worst is when people do not show up. I have e-mailed someone 3 times after she missed a meeting and never even got the courtesy of a response.

i would buy a bag off craigslist with good pics. however, I would not sell a bag on craigslist because I think they sell better on eBay and I don't have to deal with the hassle of having to meet up with people. a lot of people on craigslist are flaky.

I have bought and sold designer bags on craigslist, but I find that you get a good deal buying bags. But people are only looking for a deal and will not pay much. I like to look on craigslist for a good deal, but i never insult anyone by asking a very low price.

Everyone is so cheap on CL - they expect to see a huge selection of bags like GOACH and DENDI and CUCCI, not one little Louis Vuitton :P. I wouldn't sell high end stuff but I'd say go for low-end/no name brands.

I see alot of fakes on CL. so be careful if you are going to meet someone with cash.
Once you do the switch.. its too late. |

depends. i do both craigslist and eBay. the positives for craigslist: no fees, can turn down any offer, no worries about scams for the seller, seller gets cash, and buyer can examine merchandise before seeing it. the big negative is that less people will see your advert than on ebay, so you might get few or no offers.
as a buyer, people on craigslist seem to be asking WAY too much usually. a lot of the stuff is also fake, so as a seller, it's hard to make your merchandise stand out from the junk. |
