My bag was described as "new without tags" , material genuine leather but I received used bag with the scratches, dirty inside the bag in artificial leather. Now respond from the seller. I left negative feedback and forgot about this purchase:(

Yes, same here - I have bags I have used since 2002 without any obvious signs of wear.

I am careful with my stuff, though.

IMO, to list a bag as NWOT when it has obvious signs of wear is not just a minor oversight but a huge stretch and quite unethical.

Illegal, too...

A question for all you very experienced bag sellers: is a bag ever legitimately NWOT? I mean if a bag is new, where are the tags?

I've bought bags that were supposedly from store overstock or store samples, and these still had the tags, even though some of them have non-return marks on their labels.

If a bag has honestly been worn once and the tags have been lost, then just say so, that's fine. But NWOT is always a red flag to me, I always feel like asking the seller what happened to the tags...

Having said that I'm not particularly experienced with selling bags, I'd say that it could be a legitimate thing. I'm not so sure about sales from store overstock and the like as you mentioned, but NWOT is true for people like me that buy things, stupidly cut off the tags, leave them in the cupboard for ages and eventually dig them out and put them on eBay sometime later.

Some people also consider display stock NWOT, though I'd say that's potentially dangerous practice because display stock can get pretty banged up and look quite used. So I suppose that, while technically it's new insofar as it hasn't been used, it's... pushing it, to say the least.

If the seller led you to believe that the bag had never been carried, that's one thing and I would be terribly unhappy....
I guess this is really up to you OP. Are you happy enough that you have the bag, that you can overlook the scuffs? Or is the thrill of having the bag ruined by the wear to the bag?
If it's the latter, I think you should contact the seller and let her know that you're unhappy and are going to have to return the bag.
She may offer a partial refund and that may be enough to make you love the bag.
Please let us know how this turns out. So sorry this happened to you....

To be fair, I think they can, occasionally, go missing.

Say the person buys the bag and intends to use it, so removes all the tags, but then never gets around to it, for some reason?

I've certainly removed NAP tags, for example, as they have sharp corners and can scratch the item (in fact, often, items arrive with slight scratches from the tags [I wish they'd round-off the corners!]).

I do agree that NWOT items have, very often, actually been gently used (or worse!), though; but then, so often on eBay, condition is greatly exagerrated...

BTW, I'm not an experienced bag seller - more a buyer, really!

Some concessions (like Mulberry at Harrods or House of Fraser, for example), always remove tags at the point of sale. So, in theory, NWOT is very possible. But somehow, many ebay sellers treat NWOT rather as "used but you would not notice" description . Fair enough, at the end of the day, if a used item cannot be distinguished from a new - on the other hand, why not to honestly say "used for 2 years, but looks absolutely as new". This probably would never achieve the same level of price though...
Some of my bags, used since 2003, look as if they are just from the store shelf... And the one I used daily for 4 years, is just starting to show minor scuffs... I think, if we all had a crystall ball and could see the true stories of some ebay items we buy - we would be in many cases horrified.

Quite.

I don't buy anything from ebay any more- just for that reason. I have a few sellers that I've had good luck with that sell quality, authentic items- otherwise I don't trust anyone.

When I sell a used bag that looks like new I always advertise used and explain in the listing exactly how many times I have used the item and if there are any marks to the inside or out. I am very careful with my bags which could be passed off as new but I always list as used.

Another thing I do is I always keep receipts that came with the item, so if I do sell on they can see how much it cost and when I bought the item.

I haven't sold any bags recently as I love them all.

I agree with pro_shopper a used a few times bag is not new.

^ shopaholic1987, i am the same way!

I list every flaw that I see along with a description of how many times i used it (if the item is fairly new). I have sold bags that were used twice and although they could be passed of as new...they are not so I will not list it that way.

Thanks ladies for your useful advise. After almost a week I finally got a reply, I will return the bag for a refund. I am not sure if I should be relieved as it is really painful to deal with sellers that rarely respond to emails. I somehow have a feeling this seller may not give me back my money if I return it or it will take weeks or months...
P.S. I bought a pair of shoes described in the listing as "Never Been Worn", but when the shoes arrived, there is wear in the sole, I think at least more than twice, I don't know if I should do anything as this seller doesn't respond to email either!
Two bad sellers in a week!

Be sure and send back with delivery signature confirmation so you can prove you sent them back and they received them.

Glad this is being resolved with a refund. NWOT is quite realistic though in a listing. I know I've bought many an item, removed tags and then never wore it for whatever reason.... Trying to learn that lesson not to remove until I wear it. Those types of sellers sure make it harder on those who try out best to be honest about items we sell from our private stock.
