Default Seller just doesn't like bag?

I sold one of the RM MABs from the sample sale in an unusual distressed black leather - I posted about 6 pics, close up, all that jazz.

She gets the bag today and writes me this:

>I received the bag yesterday, but I'm really disapointed in the bag...it >has the 'look' of a used bag, I'm sorry!

>I will send it back to you today, shipping at my own expense.

>Please refund when you receive, thanks.

Now, it IS brand new and I think she just decided she didn't like the leather. I told her if she returned it I would resell it and pay her back AFTER i got the price from the new buyer, MINUS all of my losses from reselling, but that was all I could do; if she wasn't sure she would like it she should have asked more questions (I was nicer than this in my email to her). I referenced the sample sale in the listing so it should haev been clear this might not be a bag she'd seen in the store. . .

I'm not obligated to take it back, right? Will I have trouble with PayPal?

The sad thing now is that she can Neg me and I can't do anything about it. But to eat the money on the bag and selling fees and whatnot isn't worth it to prevent one negative.

Am I being unreasonable? I bought another bag BECAUSE i was selling this one, and I certainly didn't misrepresent it.

i dont' think you're being unreasonable. people need to understand that when they buy from sellers on eBay, they are not buying from a store. they take the risk of getting something that may not exactly meet their expectations (esp if they haven't seen it before IRL). meaning, they can't just return something due to buyers remorse, change of mind, or because they ended up just not liking it.

If you did not misrepresent then you are under no obligation to take it back. If you do take it back, you're doing so out of the kindness of your heart.

uggh, seriously? did you say in your listing that you don't accept returns?

buyers need to understand that most sellers aren't store; they're just selling their own items and don't exactly take 'returns'. I would tell her that I don't take returns and just risk getting the negative. GL.

I didn't address returns one way or another, but that's a good thing because I usually do a 7 day or something, so had I done what I usually do I'd be on the hook for this one.

Interestingly enough, this is the same leather people got from Gilt and didn't like; I got the bag in the same leather but in green and like it fine. But it makes me think that this is definitely just a "love it or hate it" texture, and she doesn't love. I haven't yet heard back why she thinks it looks used (if she claims it has damage or anything like that I'll know she's trying to slip one past me) but, hey, distressed leather is called "distressed" for a reason - DUH!

Totally agree with the others. It's not like she bought it from Wal-mart and can just take it back if she doesn't like it. She should have made a more informed buying decision and I don't think you should feel like you are under any obligation to her, unless its on YOUR terms.

Isn't not liking the leather a risk you take when you buy something sight unseen/unfelt? Let her resell it if she hates it.

i hate it when they think you are a store and takes returns-I'm not walmart!-i sell on eBay with the little spare time that i have. i would just tell her that you're not a store and you did your best to describe the item and offer to call her to discuss it

If she paid with PayPal then your no return policy (if you have one) is meaningless. I think the best way is to let her return it and you will issue her a refund less eBay's fee and a restocking fee.

Are you serious? That's totally lame. Effing PayPal.

Now, the one thing is that there was a typo in the PayPal address given, so she sent the payment to a typo version of my email by mistake. I managed to actually get that account from my ISP, create the PayPal, then send it to my eBay account that I actually use. Can she really do anything about it through that account, which is just a personal account?

The wheels are also turning that maybe a sufficiently large restocking fee would deter.

Time to read up on PayPal.

*** And I just realized I put Seller instead of Buyer in the thread title. What a long day it has been.

6 photos? When you re-list you should have alot more. Use photobucket or another photo host.

Did you explain fully in the listing about the leather?

If she returns it, you should refund immediately.

I agree if there is no return policy then you don't have o. If she was unsure she would like it sheshould of sent you a mail asking if she didn't like could she return it! When you buy on eBay you should check the retuns policy she obvaisly didn't.

Even if you accept the return the buyer could still end up leaving you negative feedback, as there's nothing to stop her from doing so. If being concerned about receiving negative feedback is the reason you're willing to allow her to send the bag back when there's nothing wrong with it and you've not misrepresented it, it's up to you but it may still backfire if she's upset about the complications and inconvenience returning the bag caused her. She'll have her money back and you may still get negative. Hopefully you're able to work it all out with the buyer. Just ensure she sends the same bag back before refunding if you accept a return. IMO you weren't in the wrong and the buyer should've paid more attention to the photos shown in your listing before committing to purchasing the bag.

Annoying...lots of gals would love to have that bag. There is a subset of women who expect perfection, even in a distressed bag, which is kind of counterintuitive! I read more and more on here, it had a little scratch on the bottom when I got it home from Saks so I returned it...when people touch something, it may get scratched. It just shows you whether the bag holds up well. I personally think that is too picky! But, you have to remember all buyers are different and you got a picky one, or one who says that but really changed her mind.

I'd take the return to save yourself the headache and relist. It should go quickly. BTW, is this the RM auction someone got at a (very low) BIN price of 325? Hungary Mood black MAM? If so, I'd be POd too as the description was VERY specific about the leather type! (Plus I missed that one or I would have been your buyer all happy and content! LOL:)

I'd say eBay should stress the rules better to new buyers, but I think these ARE the new rules...anything goes on ebay!
