This is a very public forum. I'm familiar with Ina Steiner and admire her work. I also understand your frustration. However, I did not reply to this thread to be grilled about personal information or transactions. What you don't seem to get is that there have been (and still are, I am sure) eBay reps who pose as simple tPF members, for reasons of their own. There have also been counterfeiters who joined to get information or victims. We have learned, over time, to be very careful. It is not so much a matter of trusting or not trusting YOU, so I don't think you should take this quite so personally. It is a matter of giving confidential information about our eBay transactions to a perfect stranger. Surely, you can understand that particular reluctance. It is unproductive and unnecessary to resort to accusations of "protecting the criminals." Any member of tPF would find that offensive. |

As I stated in the last post I understood that.
You can keep your info you yourself if you don't want to help or you can send it to Ina. No one is forcing you do do anything. |

Either way...If you have info on a fake item, report it to Ina Steiner at Auctionbytes.

Thanks for the advice and support. I really do appericiate it. I just want to clarify that the buyer is accusing me of selling a fake item which it is not. I gurantee and stand behind the authenticity of the bag that I sold. I have 100% + feedback since 1999. I am not a store I was just trying to clean out my closet.Whether or not it is a legitimate buyer I just wanted to some advice on how to protect myself. I understand there a ton of fakes on eBay so I can see why one would be cautious. The way the e-mail was worded made me more suspicious and especially after the fact its been more than 2 months.
Hippiechick1969 are you also satisfactionguranteed*********? |

If it has been more than two months, I don't believe your buyer will have any success filing a dispute with PayPal. Did she ever leave feedback? Do you have proof of delivery or signature confirmation?

My daughter is hippiechick on ebay. I liked the name she chose and it just popped into my head, when I registered here. Didn't want to use the satisfaction one, sounds a little demeaning on a message board.

maybeimeow, you didn't by chance send the bag to the philippines? I recently posted about how I was scammed, and everything seems to be the same as your information (sold a bag, shipped to unconfirmed address, then a month later received an email claiming it was fake). After the buyer sent a nasty email saying i was a liar and sent a fake bag, then about 2 weeks later I was hit with a chargeback, and turns out I was victim of a popular scam that has hit many TPFs and others. If you sent it to the Philippines, then I would be sure it is the same scam.
If not, then I would hope that in your situation, you will be protected by paypal. To be honest, I no longer trust paypal as they always seem to side with the buyers and offer little protection if the scammer is really good to find a way to cover all of their bases. I wish the best of luck to you! |

I have seen case after case after case, on the ebay feedback discussion board where sellers are getting ripped off for everything, not just fake stuff. People are getting chargebacks, left and right. Buyers are bidding and then finding another one for cheaper and just forgetting about the first one. This stuff is so ridiculous, it's a complete mess. I can't imagine what they were thinking, with these new rules and are they EVER going to change them?
They have to see what it has caused. If this stuff gets out in the open about Paypal and I am SURE that it will, they are going to be shut down. I wonder if ebay would fold along with them, being they were a part of it. Very interesting to watch this unfold. |
