Default Returning an Item

I'm not sure what the proper method for doing a return is. If the seller has the standard eBay 7 day return policy, do I just ship the item back to him, or do I contact him first and then ship it once he responds back agreeing to the return? What if he doesn't respond? Should I continue to wait? I am trying to return an item that was not as described on the auction. Thanks for the help!

I'd contact him first. If he doesnt respond, still send it back...if it's a reputable seller, he'll contact you back.

I've tried contacting the seller 3 times already but he hasn't responded yet. I also realized the Paypal receipt does not have his address on it, and the box didn't have a return address either. I have no way of sending the item back to him. Is there a way to request his address through Paypal? Or do I need to just open a dispute?

The best way is to open a dispute with PayPal, the seller have to respond, if he doesn't you escalate it and hopefully get your money back.
