Default Retuning an item to seller She wants me to mark them as used

What do you think that is all about??? I just got these Gucci shoes from a seller in Italy yesterday, Im in the US. The shoes are definitely defective but not used! I don't quite get why she would want me to mark them as used? Any thoughts?

So she won't have to pay customs on them when they come back?

Why are you sending them back? Not as described? She wont have to pay customs if they are marked used, gift and has a low value.......not sure how much Italy is but in Sweden we can only buy for $30 (yes, it´s true!!!!) anything above that and the full value is subjected to a 40% custom and tax fee (insane Swedes)

I guess they could be considered not as described? She was selling two pairs in different sizes and only used a pic of the other size. The back part of the shoe that covers the heel is freakishly wide.....looks so strange. I'm thinking they are defective? She has no problem with me sending them back but was a bit suspish as to why she wanted them marked as used. The customs issue makes sense to me though. So just mark as used on the box I guess?

P.S. 40%????? Good Gawd that's steep!

Yes, it´s probably a custom thing...I´d ask here though if I were you.

Yeah, the custom fees are insane but so are our taxes in general....punishment for living in Sweden

I am pretty sure its a custom thing. If she accepts returns and you are not losing out, why not help her out? JMO.... But like what lovely64 said on the above post, its better to ask her....

ITA, I've got no problem if it's a customs issue. I've never dealt with an international seller is all. I did shoot her an e-mail but dont know the time difference. BTW guys thank you for the replies!

If it doesn't really affect you, I would do it. No big deal as you will get your refund regardless of how they're marked.

just a thought - does the buyer have to get insurance? I know you have to provide the tracking no to get a refund through a dispute, but what if it gets lost?
And how come we all tell sellers to not commit mail fraud by lying in customs forms for buyers but a buyer can do it to return to a seller?! Just wondering...

Lovely 64, Thanks for the info!

Babyjlo, Good point, would not want to get in trouble for mail fraud especially since my father used to be a higher up at the USPS!

BTW, I'd def get insurance and signature confirmation, just to be safe.

I'm pretty sure that you could put returned merchandise on there. But aren't there restrictions on sending leather to Italy or does that only apply to bags?

Ok, i just got an email from the seller. It's a customs issue. I replied that I'll be sending them back with insurance and signature confirmation and would furnish tracking number to her as well.

I would write it is a return to original owner - defective item. Value $0 since it's defective, un less you insure it.

I would much rather write defective item than used mainly because they weren't used ,it just feels so dishonest. I was going to purchase insurance for my own safety. But now that you bring it up I don't know what to do. Would it be ok to write used per her request and then insure it for what I paid for them in the first place? Grrrr, I wish my Dad was still here to advise me.
