Default Quick question re shipping UK to Finland

I'm selling a Mulberry at the moment on eBay and I've had a buyer from Finland ask if I would ship there. I was under the impression that you should use a courier rather than Royal Mail to send overseas so I checked and quoted the buyer £35 for UPS. She replied saying that was too much and that she had bought from the UK before and the seller had sent by Royal Mail for £12.

My question is ... would I have any protection if I used International Signed For mail ???

I've never posted outside the UK before and it's making me a bit nervous.

Thanks for any advice.

Why don't you try getting a quote for RM Airsure?

I'm in Germany but buy quite frequently from the UK: RM International Signed-For is only trackable until it leaves your country, while Airsure is trackable until the item is delivered. I don't know whether that means Delivery Confirmation or Signatura Confirmation for Finland though but I guess the post office should be able to tell you that.

I never ever had any problems with International Signed-For or Airsure items, but as a seller I'd use what offers the most protection

I have used Royal Mail International with Insurance quite a bit & never had a problem but depending on the weight of your Mulberry its still quite expensive. Cost £24.00 to send a large bag to France insured for £250.00.

Unfortunately, to ship from out of the UK with full insurance (which I'd always advise) is quite expensive. I've discovered recently that you can only use Royal Mail International signed for, if your item's value is less than £500. Also this service is a bit slow (a recent bag sent to the US took around 14 days), but it does give peace of mind with insurance, even though you can't track it once it's left the UK. A recent small parcel sent this way to the US cost me £16.

The costs rise scarily, if your bag has a value of over £500, since they then have to be sent either Global Express or Parcelforce International and prices start around £50, before you add on the value of the bag. The service does offer full tracking and arrival in 2 - 3 days, but I was recently quoted £79 to send a medium parcel to the US with a bag value of £550. Buyers are going to baulk at those costs so I guess you can either agree to meet half-way or increase your item price.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all these replies, your collective advice is much appreciated. I think I will give the Signed For service a go. The bag won't come anywhere near £500 so it is within the limits for insurance (which is what really bothers me).

Hi, I just shipped a bag to Finland via USPS Express and I only paid $37.00. Does RM have an option with tracking? If it's under 250.00 you can send it RM with signature confimation. If you are a Power Seller you are protected when you ship to an unconfirmed address.
I haven't heard of too many scams coming out of Finland. Check the buyer's feedback and you should be able to see if she has purchased from the UK and all has gone well.
Cheers,
