Default post office error -- who pays?

well here's a good one -- i had a scarf coming from france, and after three weeks i e-mailed the seller to ask him to look into it.

the tracking information says it arrived at my post office, was held for 15 days and then sent back. except if it arrived at my post office, they never gave me a notice to pick it up.

so now the scarf is on its way back to her, and really neither of us should have to pay the shipping for the second attempt. but someone's got to, since the post office is unlikely to send it for free.

any thoughts? offer to split it with her? suck up and pay it, since it would still be less than what my high bid was?

I would say that you need to pay for it - She sent it correctly...it was OUR Post Office that screwed up...
On a side note I would let them hear about it as well...
JMO

Too bad you didn't have any tracking information from the seller before or you could have seen it was at the P.O. ~ I am always checking in Paypal for shipping statuses...
Sorry that happened to you but I would just suck it up like you stated...
