Default Please help me to understand best offer!!!
I was interested in a used handbag and noticed that the BIN is $1100 but also has or best offer. I try my best to always be reasonable and not to offend with insulting offers. My first offer was $999 and was automatically rejected so I put in $1050 and again it was rejected. I realize that the seller has it set up to automatically reject offers lower than she wants to take but why in the world would you put best offer and have it reject at $50 less than the BIN.

Am I totally missing something???

Honestly, that makes so sense. Maybe you should send her a message and see what the deal is!

The idea of the "offer" is different to many people.

To me, an offer starting at 60% of the BIN is acceptable as a starting point for negotiations. To some, 60% would just be an insult.

Sounds like to me that this seller is either really really really expecting a certain amount for her bag, or she has a typo in her automatic reject feature!

Ugh, I hate these kind of Best offers. I have dealt with many of sellers that have set up a best offer and not go lower than $5.00 off the already asking price.

Sheesh, hardly any point in adding BO to a listing if that's what they're going to do !

Is it cheaper to list as a BO than a BIN, or a combo of both?

That really is a stumper - where the seller rejects offers less than $50 of her BIN. I would message the seller here and ask. As for other BO's, I agree with Sarah: start with 50% of the BIN and what? - they can only counter-offer. If they are "insulted," all they have to do it let you know what they would accept. I have bought plenty of stuff for 50% of BIN.
The auto-reject lets you know as well that your offer was too low, but I really don't understand this particular case (the OP's).

I think this happens because the best offer is set on automatic. What it might mean is that the seller expects to have some bidding on the item, and has set her starting point as $1100 and her reserve as $1500. If the reserve is not met the is willing to sell the item for a price that si between her starting offer and her reserve.

I see what you're saying, but this doesn't apply in this case.

It's not an auction, but a Buy-It-Now style listing.

Yes, this is super annoying, I had the same thing happen to me.......the seler REFUSED to sell the bag at $10 less than her BIN price with a BO.....just stupid IMO.

Yep, I made an offer on a $1700 bag. I started at $1400,auto-declined, $1500 auto-declined, $1600 auto-declined, and I didn't realize you couldn't make more than 3 offers. So, I have no clue what would've been acceptable, very annoying.

I'm selling an item now with a BO feature, for $799. I had an offer of $100, seriously?? So while some sellers miss the point, some buyers do too

some sellers with these OBO options on their listings are crazy! they say OBO, but would only accept offers like $5-10 off their original asking price. LOL
