Unhappy OMG!!!! I got paid twice for my auction!

I just listed a Marc Jacobs bag and the thing sold right away with BIN to 2 buyers!!! I only have 1 purse but somehow something got screwed up. eBay only shows 1 winner, but double the amount of money. I originally thought it was just some crazy typo, but when I went to my paypal account- I saw that 2 people had paid.

I immediately called paypal to ask what had happened, I thought that once someone purchases and item- then that's it, no one else can bid or pay. Paypal was actually very helpful, it was the firsttime the CS rep had ever seen this problem. He was really nice and tried to get to the bottom of it by calling eBay. At ebay- the CS rep also had never seen that problem before. Ebay only shows one winner, but on Paypal you can see that 2 people paid. Thankfully Paypal told me that this error was not my fault and that they would reverse the transaction and refund the money to the second bidder/payer/winner and explain to them that there was some error and it was not the seller's fault.

They also told me the second person used a coupon and that they would also reimburse them for that- I hope they do, those live.com coupons are only supposed to be good for 3 uses, right?

I feel so bad, even though it was not my error that caused this mess. Still someone is going to feel cheated and disappointed!

There was also a glitch a while back where bidders were being told by paypal to pay twice for the transaction.

Paypal seems to have more and more problems as time goes on, or is it just me?

What happened with that, did people pay twice? So far, according to paypal, mine is an isolated incident. Who knows though, it very well could be another paypal glitch!

Bummer! You could have gone on a nice shopping spree.

Just kidding, of course.

That is really weird. I have NEVER heard of that. If I were you, I would contact that second buyer (if you're able to figure it out) and explain the error, so they don't think you were being greedy and trying to get more money, and worse, leave you a neg.

I'm sure once PP sends them an explanation, they'll understand. But you never know.

I agree this is totally strange. I do plan on contacting the second payer, but eBay informed me that it should NOT be my concern. I did nothing wrong and so eBay did not seem to care that one of their customers was getting the short end of the stick.

Luckily paypal did care.

Paypal already reversed the transaction, thank goodness!

This part probably sounds even weirder, but the second buyer couldn't leave me a neg or even complain to eBay because ebay has no record of the 2nd buyer's transaction. This whole double transaction is super strange, but I would never, ever keep money that was gotten through anything I felt was dishonest- I have a terrible guilt complex...

I was prompted to pay twice on something I bought and then I had a few bidders pay twice. The only reason why I figured out what happened was because I had been told by paypal to do that myself (naturally, I went back and checked first that I had paid before I did it again, and so'nuff the first payment was fine!). On the eBay boards a few other people reported their bidders paying twice too, so it wasn't isolated to my account.

If you have a BIN with immediate payment required. Maybe the 1st buyer was hitting the BIN and while going to Paypal to pay, the second buyer hit the BIN and was going through Paypal to pay. I remember when it says immediate payment required by a seller, when you hit the BIN, it will say that the item will still be available to another buyer until item is paid for.

This just happened on one of my auctions tonight!! I got the eBay notice that my item had been bought, and then 2 different paypal receipts for it. Ebay was not helpful at all, and paypal told me just to refund the second buyer. I feel horrible because now her money is tied up.

There seems to be a lot of glitches there lately. That is too bad that they haven't come up with a fix for it other than the seller hopefully being honest and refunding. Good for you though, for noticing and giving the person their money back.

This happened to me about 6 months ago..
One winner was showing up from GA..but another 'winner's
address was appearing from NY..
Apparently, they both BIN'd at the same time, one went through their PP account, the other paid thru CC..
it was a mess as it took me awhile to figure things out..I thought I was being scammed, the winner couldn't figure out why her address was in NY and she lived in Georgia, and the person who thought she won, was sooo disappointed that she actually did not..and said she had been searching eBay for a year for this item..i felt sooo bad for her..
on top of that, I asked the non winner if she knew anyone in GA and she said she moved from there 6 months earlier, which just happened to be a coincedence that made the winner nervous..
we straightened out, finally.

Wow, so this is not an isolated incident! Paypal reversed the transaction, so I don't think the buyer's money was tied up. My buyers used coupons, I wonder if that is making things more complicated?

That's so sad for the second bidder, it sounds like a mess. But I'm glad you straightened it out.

Sorry jj that this happened to you!! I'm glad it got resolved, despite the small hassle. Look at the bright side, at least your MJ sold! I'm sad to see that it went, but I guess it was time, right?
