Is there a way to report counterfeits like on eBay? I didn't see one - that would help to make it a better site.

Maybe as sellers we just need to embrace the next "marketplace" and "make it happen" on our own. If we shoot down every new site because of the existing fake product there, no site will ever grow to compete with eBay! There has to be another alternative to just eBay and Craigslist.

You're right. At one point, eBay was just a small start up like everyone else (and with fakes as well). :~) I just checked out eCrater and it seemed to be ok. There is some BNIB lipgloss that I'm tempted to purchase from a seller just to "try it out". I'll report back how it went.

I've heard of www.OnlineAuctions.com where there is no listing or final value fees at all. All you do is pay a monthly or yearly membership fee and you can list as many items as you want. Monthly is like $8 and annual is like $96 I think.

Some reviews of the the site:

Yes, that is true...Paypal told me as long as it is a sale of goods..(but not for services) the same protection and right to file a complaint for a misrepresented/unreceived item applies and goes through the same process.

As for the Paypal question, I believe it would be alright. I've bought/sold in other forums/communities and PayPal will hold up their end of the bargain regardless of whether or not an idem was purchased through eBay.

I sell on ecrater!

I do so because eBay restricted my account and there is nothing I can do about it. Ecrater gets more traffic than you would think! I suspect the person started it to eventually sell it to google because everything in the site is linked in there and when people search for stuff on google, it shows up really high in the searches. It would eventually make a nice addition to google's portfolio of companies. One of the nice things is that when you set up a store and people enter it from your url, they kinda can't really leave to wander away and buy fakes, so as long as you know who are the "good" sellers, you are fine. Don't forget that your credit card offers a dispute service, so you do have protection. Also, the person in charge ACTUALLY answers the questions that you send them! I do my own advertising on google, so that probably helps me, but that isn't hard at all to set up and ecrater is geared for you to do things like that--for what you save on fees to ebay, you have a whole lot of work with!

My take so far--not bad and I'm getting between 30-40 unique visitors a day and sales have slowly but surely increasing. And, it totally beats paying eBay $700 or more a month in fees!!

Why does the marketplace here not fill the need? I am not able to get on it, but it would seem a natural place.

Here is another reason I still use eBay. I sometimes don't know the value of some of the items we sell. (No designer items folks), so when I put it in an auction format I let the marketplace decide. If it is a small marketplace I don't get the bids and therefore I do not get as much.

An example, I sold a 45 record a few months ago that I could not find in ANY research. Finally put it on eBay for $1.99 and started getting e-mails from around the world. It seems this record has not been publicly offered for sale in over 20 years, so there was some excitement.

Would they have found me on another site? I haven't found that site yet, so..... It ended up selling for $1,326.01 to a person in Italy. I don't get a lot of those but enough to keep listing unknown items and standing back to see what happens.

By the way, for those of you who do not know why I am here if I don't sell designer items, I teach eBay classes and am usually in a learning mode when I peruse the posts. We have designer items, but have chosen to not sell them on eBay because of all the pitfalls. That and my wife does not like to get rid of them. We always have to expand our closets.

Well they are selling a few nasty fake Balenciagas on there, so that is out for anyone trying to sell a high end bag.

I will check it and will most likely do some listing at the site. Thank you for the insite. I like the idea of two sites or more for listing. It will help keep the fees down.

Just looked at it. I need to show 6 to 12 Pictures. I do not see this on the site. It is loaded with fakes so the selling will be slow.

With buyers and seller scattering all over after the recent eBay changes, you're going to have to work with a seller you already trust, no matter what site you are buying and selling on. I chose onlineauction.com because I like an auction format vs. a fixed price format and they allow links to personal selling websites. I refer buyers back to my eBay feedback to verify my reputation as a seller and will continue to do so until I have feedback built up on onlineauction.com. My goal is to build a steady group of customers who come back to buy from me repeatedly because they are happy with what I offer for sale and trust me as a seller, much like a brick and mortar store does. It's going to take some time, but I'm patient and really enjoy buying and selling online in an auction format the most.

With ecrater you don't get traffic really through their site. You get traffic through google and your own advertising. So, don't think of it as a new site which to search on--think of it as lots of little stores that are unrelated to each other you can choose whether or not to shop at sorta like tias.com or something but with much less interconnecting between stores. Utilize it as a store-builder for you to build and then promote yourself.

Don't look at it as "bad" just because some people are selling fakes on there. Unfortunately that happens everywhere. It doesn't mean that everyone is and don't punish people for the wrong-doing of others.
