I guess I knew about the problems of fakes and such when it comes to guitars and basses.
But who would thunk?
I never did.
I real do thank all of you for your help.
When I do get this gift for my wife and after Christmas I will have to show my wife these posts and have her join your forum!

Just remeber that there are lot of your husbands out there that are as confused as I am about all of these things at Christmas.
And I guess you have taught me to be thoughtful to the wives/girlfriends who are trying to buy or ask questions about audio recording equipment and guitars and such.

BTW what type of feedback would you leave for this Seller?
I really do believe that she was sorry and just got to many things going on in her life.

Thanks again

Matt
About feedback, if I were you, I'd leave her a neutral or no feedback.

Welcome to the purse forum! Wish to see your wife come on board soon. But I have to warn you, since I joined the forum, I purchased four times more than I did before.

Merry Christmas! Wish you will get the purse for your wife soon.

She was honest and very sorry for what she did. and refunded my money.
She asked how can this be a loss to you since you got your money back?
I explained to her that since I won a $295 for $175 I'm out $120 plus the time and now I got to try a find another one like it.
She then understood that the way she burned me was the same as it felt when a Buyer burns the seller.
BTW I forgave her and resolved the situation.
This was very hard for me.

All I ask of any of you eBay seller out there is be honest with Buyers.
And also that the buyer be good buyer and pay for what you WIN!

Thanks for letting me vent!

Matt, it is disappointing and it happened to me. Seller actually listed a bag twice on his website. I won one bag at a lower price and another person won it at a higher price neither of us knowing it was a duplicate listing. Now I guess you could say the seller was running a scam to sell to the highest bidder. Or he messed up and listed the item more than once. It can happen. I've done it myself. Alot of sellers do have brick and mortar stores in addition to their online store.

If I were you I would not spend any more time with retribution and just move on to another bag. Not worth it. I hope you find another one you do like. OH! and don't do the feedback game. You'll end up with a negative and looking like a sourpuss. Since you didn't complete the transaction, I wouldn't leave any feedback at all.

Yep....move on. You were refunded....that's the main thing.

Good luck in your search.

Uh...where he did say he feels he is OWED $120? People, learn how to read. He won a bag for $xxx and because of the seller's stupidity, I mean, honest mistake, he will most likely pay more for the bag...if he can even find it.

I really don't see how this is an example of "ebayer buyers who expect tooooo much". He won a bag and he expected to receive it. How is that expecting too much, exactly??? Seriously!

Matt, good luck with the search!

If you win a bag on eBay you should receive it, period. To say Matt is at fault is really wrong.

If you have a bag listed for sale on eBay it should not be listed anywhere else for sale at the same time.

SELLERS like this is what has made eBay the mess it is right now, not buyers.

Getting his money back is not enough, he needed the bag he won.

I guess if you were shopping in a store you would pick up the item, take it to the cash register, PAY for it, and then have a sales associate take it back and say "sorry we sold this on eBay yesterday for more, and forgot to take it off the shelf, we will have to refund your money" and you would accept that?

If I won an item on eBay and then contacted the seller to tell them I had found a better deal at a store and no longer wanted the item there would be no sympathy for that.

Dealing fairly on eBay goes both ways, this seller was wrong.

Matt happy hunting and I can completely empathize with you on this... Been there and done that... You at least have a couple weeks left ~ I was down to just ONE

And not to turn back to another remark but :

Sure reads in my mind like Matt thinks he has been shorted on the $120 ~ how else do you interpret being "out" $$$???

While I do not agree with his statement ~or albeit my interpretation of it, as I said before, I have been there and done that... Actually - got a response from the seller that the bag I won't didn't sell high enough... W-T-F!?! Put a reserve on it then!!!!!

There is still time and if you find one on eBay ask the seller to Express it!

I did not interpret that statement to mean he felt he was owed $120. The money represents the opportunity cost to him by the whole situation...if that makes any sense.

Wow I think some of these responses were quite harsh.

I think the OP had a natural reaction for a reasonably new ebayer.

I think we are all so used to people being criminally defrauded that we wouln't even blink at someone being the victim of poor service.

He has every right to be annoyed. Best of luck on your search, and welcome to tpf!

I guess I should clarify what I said earlier I DO NOT believe that she owes me $120 that was my bad for wording it that way.
I don't mind paying more than the $175 that I won that bag at I would have been glad to have paid more for it.
I would have been happy to pay her the $233 that she sold it for at her store.
I would have done this if there was a BUY NOW on it.
I would have payed full price at the store or at least tried to use a coupon like the F&F from Macy's get the 20% off.
BTW Thanks for the tip on that one.
I guess what I was trying to say was the price really wasn't the issue it was the fact that I won the auction and paid for the item and did not recieve it.
The real issue is I need to find another one somewhere that is not a fake and get it in time.
If this at Macy's, Dillards, eBay or where ever it real does not matter, I just need to find this so I can surprise my wife and give her what she really wanted instead of what she was willing to settle for.
THIS IS WHY I LOVE HER SOOOOO MUCH!!!

This how and why I found your forum since when you need to find out about something that you don't know anything about you go to the experts.
These are not the sales people but the people that use and know these items inside and out.

BTW I didn't mean to trun this post into a flame war.
I guess this was the forum that I choose to vent my frustration about this purchase at and look for some help.
It wouldn't have done me any good to vent at the audio forums that I post on about a eBay deal that went SOUTH on a Handbag, now would it?
I guess I just looking for help from people that deal with these types of purchases on regular basis and would be able to help me find another one in time that was not a fake.

Musical instruments, computers, recording equipment is what I know about.
Purses and handbags not so much... But I'm learning.

Thanks again for all you help.
And if you ever need help with with what I really know about just ask.
The funny thing is I feel when I introduce my wife to this forum, I have a feeling this going to get very expensive for me.
Oh well she deserves something to collect...
Since I collect Basses and that can get really expensive.

But from what I have learned here so can these Handbags!

Thanks again,

Matt

Hi Matt,

Welcome to TPF!

Thanks for posting and let me assure you that the majority of the people here are very nice and do want to help. I'm sorry it turned somewhat negative; it is definitely not representative of other forums and threads on TPF.

In any case, have you tried calling different Macy's in your area?

At dooney and bourke stores.. they're having daily specials... so what you can do is try calling different stores and maybe find a great deal on another handbag similar to the safari bag? My friend was telling me about this women who bought a quilted jacket (worth: 288.. but she got it for $99!). I think this promotion will only last till christmas eve. OR.. if you absolutely need to get that bag.. then all i can suggest is ordering it from their online site.

Sure, to every economics major

Matt, if you're willing to pay full price, have you tried calling Dooney to see if they can locate one for you?

Here's a printable coupon (but only if you go to the actual DB store... not the department stores)

me too! I just got one in the mail and will happily send it to you if you can't use the online one.

Also - they do have the bag online - both the red and black trim safari bag:
http://www.dooney.com/OA_HTML/ibeCCt...?section=23406

$295 full price, but I bet if you contact a store and tell them it's a gift for your wife they'll honor the coupon (if the store is not in your area), or may be able to provide info on how to use a promo code online (didn't see one on the coupon).

good luck!
