Default Is it common practice to give TPF members discounts on ebay?
HI I am new to tPF but not new to ebay. I was looking at a bag today --as usual -- when I seen the girl-seller- was also a tPF memebr. Down in her ? was anther tPF member saying she was anxious to see what discount she would get as her also being a tPF member? I seen nothing in her listing saying discount to other members, yet she replied saying yes she would offer free shipping, is this something expected,or just each sellers own decision? Just wanting to know is this common,as I sell items on their too so need to know what to expect, what to do?

This is simply the seller's call. Seeing as anyone can sign up and become a tPF member, I personally wouldn't do it.

Some people are just super nice members here and may offer to discount TPfers? Maybe she also had it listed here in MP and would give you the MP members price? If she is offering a discount for tfper's, I would take her up on it. Or free shipping or whatever...
However, there is no guarantee that she IS a member here, or that it will be a foolproof deal or what you expect. I would say unless you know the person, don't do any "under the table" deals because you won't be covered by Ebay/PP. You can ask for her tpf id and then do some checking around.

Agreed.

There are over 200,000 "members" of the PF but just as MarneeB said, anyone can sign up to be a member, that includes scammers. Remember there is no "screening" for someone to sign up here. Maybe they never post, but have an ID here just so they can put PFer in their ebay listings.

There have been a few active, contributing tPF members who turned out to be MAJOR scammers. Just as one example, do a search here on the ebay subforum for a thread like "my balenciaga bag turned out to be a pair of Vans" - the OP and about 9-10 other PFers were scammed by another PFer.

In my auctions, if someone tells me they are a PFer, I ask for their PF ID and come to the PF to search on their posts. In some cases, I might do free shipping or something if I "know" them from the PF, but it's purely on a case-by-case basis.

PF member or not, it is soooooo incredibly important to approach each transaction carefully - you never know who's behind the other computer screen!

ETA: here's the thread Violet SGH came but turned out to be pair of Vans *NOW Pretty*Bubbles !!!

Thank you ladies all of you for your answers and advice.I too have never seen that and was not sure if this was a new thing goign on? Being a new memebr on tPF did not want to go one way or the other until I discussed it over with every one.I have just started back up listing and am now pubically saying I am a tPF member so wanted to see if this was a common thing?

i think it was rather rude for someone to expect a discount.

I agree. I agree, but if I'm close to a member then I may consider.

Yes agreed,it just seemed odd to me this woman saying like... I am very excited to see what discount you are offering?? oK you are already getting a BBag for a fraction of retail and that is not enough?? Made me wonder, OH MY GOSH... I am going to have to check out that thread about the Bbag being vans. I know ,it is REALLY sad. I have been on ebay a LONG time since 1999 and just when I think I have heard everything under the sun another pops up their ugly head one down fall of dealing with the true public I guess?

I know that is what I was thinking ?? She just expected it? Oh yes for sure if someone I chat with & post with and I feel like I want to give them a discount, sure , but excatly just expect it?? I mean ALL of us sellers are struggling right now with the economy and a even further discount is sometimes really hard to do

neither would i. just because i know the owner of a store doesn't mean i expect a discount because i live next door to them.
