Default International Sale Question

Well heres the deal. I recently sold and LV item to a buyer in Thailand. After I shipped the item out, I saw that they left me a note on the transaction details page requesting that I set the value to $10, which I didn't do. Did I make the right decision, even if I would have seen the note prior to shipping I wouldn't have done it anyway. Is there anything the buyer can do, since I didn't set the value low? This is the first time I have encountered this, and would like to know how to handle it. Thanks in advance!

I would never mark any item for less than the sale price. If you mark the item for less than the sale price, you can only insure it for that amount. (Hopefully you insured it.) If you had marked it for less than the real value and it was lost or rifled through, you're basically out the money and out the item. If your seller paid through PayPal and filed a dispute, they would win and you would be out of luck. You definitely did the right thing!

Oh yes, I always insure high priced items. Another question, is it true that you can't get signature confirmation on international packages? As I have heard that you can, but everytime I ask for one my PO says they don't do that(I don't really believe them as they tried to tell me that I could insure international packages as well!)

If you ship express mail international, the buyer is supposed to sign for the item. It also has way more reliable tracking.

Thats what I thought, but they buyer didn't want express only priority. With priority it will only tell you when the item has been delivered, correct?

Yes, the tracking info only shows "Delivered Abroad".

It is actually against eBay policy for a buyer to request devaluing an item for purposes for evading customs charges. I have a short sentence in my listings saying that I will NOT do so. It certainly cuts down on the requests to mark a $2000 handbag as worth $50! You made the right decision. You can only insure for the marked value of the item. If the buyer DOES protest, pm me and I will dig up the page I recently read about reporting that type of activity. Hopefully, just knowing that it is a no-no would calm the buyer down.

I was wondering also about the signing for international. My post office also said I can only get a return by mail saying it was delivered. So if we ship express mail we do not need to purchase any additional signature confirm to win a paypal case correct?

I just want to be covered also since I am shipping international tomorrow.

Express Mail International shipped from the US automatically includes signature confirmation. I don't know about shipping from Italy, except that if the item is a handbag, it should be marked "leather" to avoid being held up in US customs.

Thanks jjyounger! I am actually at an APO in italy . It is a military base so we have US mail service here. I have never been charged customs or paid customs when shipping back and forth to myself in the us. I never marked the bag leather. I wonder if the same leather rules apply since we are technically a us address even though in Italy.

I seriously doubt that the leather rules applies to you at an APO. I bought a Chanel bag from Italy, the seller shipped it via Fed Ex, 4 weeks later it showed up at her home, she reshipped and had to mark it "leather." That is the only reason I know about this, but she was an Italian citizen shipping Fed Ex. I think you'll be just fine whether you marked it leather or not.

Ok well I haven't heard anything from the buyer so I assume there has been no problems, but I have another question now. I recently sold an LV MC mirror to a buyer in Australia, and I don't know what to describe it as on the customs forum. Would I put something like leather accessory? Or Leather mirror? Help me out! Thanks in advance!
