I had the same thing happen to me - the buyer had buyer's remorse, screamed fake and eBay believed it. She sent the bag back, left horrible negative feedback and now eBay won't refund my final value fees.

There is no seller protection and stating no returns means nothing.

At least you've gotten your bag back! I was dealing with a low life scammer.

This scares many sellers into doing just as you did and taking the bag back even though they have a no returns policy.

Buyers can also stretch the "significantly" in the "significantly not as described" and win disputes on largely exaggerated flaws on the bag. (unfortunately the many sellers who do underplay the flaws are to blame for this).

So in answer to your question, a no returns policy is mostly a deterrent and is not likely to prevent a determined buyer from forcing a return.
Thank you very much for your comment, northerndancer. I am even more scare to sell on eBay now that I know how eBay operates.

Most of my past customers are North American based, and never experienced any issue. I don't think I will ship international again, just too much risk.

Worst of the story, not only that I received negative feedback I did not deserve, buyer also sent me back an envelope with trash inside. But this is just one of the horror story.
This is so terrible, and disheartening.

i <3 bags!
I recently sold via a private sale an expensive jewelry recently worth over $1500 and shipped via USPS. Thank goodness that the buyer wanted to insure is and guess what happened? The USPS "Lost" the package. The buyer and I worked together and got the full insurance back .

After this issue, I finally decided that I don't want the headache and heartache that comes to selling. Even though I've sold 10+ designer bags, luxury items, I've finally decided to just use a reputable consignment stores to sell my stuff. Even though I will loose 20-30% off the amount that I could sell it too, I have an assurance that I won't have to deal will scammers.

Have you thought of selling your stuff through consignment?

totally jOyc3, its the best way for sure. i havent got the constitution for all the hassle that comes with. still can't beleive how completely hit and miss fleabay protection is if your a buyer or a seller. it seems like rolling a dice. i am finding some really good consigners and independant stores where prices are even better than you get on bonz or fleabay and the service and returns are completely pain free. let me know if you are in the UK and i'll send the bookmarks i've got so far

UPS <3's TPF, too!
I am still mulling this one over. I have selected some of my treasures to rehome, but the thought of getting ripped off gives me the willies. I did consider consignment, but I had an awful experience with a well known consigner in the US that left a pretty bad taste in my mouth. I sent my item in, the consigner basically said it wasn't worth anything, and then she literally turned around and sold it for almost THREE TIMES what she paid me for it, and listed the item as "like new/pristine/rare/blah..." I am talking about hundreds of dollars, too. Even after fees, I am pretty sure she made about $1,000.00 profit from the bag I sent in. When I brought it up to her, she was sketchy about it and tried to claim that it wasn't my bag. I know it was my bag; my original receipt was also included with it, AND (this is the funny part), the buyer of the bag happens to be on TPF and posted photos of it when she bought my bag from the consigner three days after it was delivered to the shop... Sigh. Even my little ID tag for the outside of the box was in the photos. I almost cried. Lesson learned.

Ugh. I know that Ebay is going to get 20% with PP fees and Ebay fees. What do I get for that 20%? I feel like there is no seller protection anymore.

I do have two bags that I absolutely cannot locate my original receipt for inclusion in my future listings. I am really good about saving ALL of them; one was purchased in 2007 and the other in 2008 from the retail store. I wonder if they will give me a copy from so long ago? Maybe not....

Should I pay CarolDiva to do a pre-authentication before listing? I know they are real; I remember the sting on my cc bill both times when I checked the mailbox a month later. I especially remember being pissed when someone knocked one of them off a table, and I almost had a heart attack that it came into contact with the wood floor in a Logan's-peanut-covered-fiesta-of-an-eatery. The bag was unscathed, but I am pretty sure everyone around the room heard me scream in horror. Perhaps they were bewildered at my in-zone dive attempt to save my precious small fortune... I mean handbag. I cradled, yes cradled, her in the floor for a few minutes. I might have even apologized to her for someone else's careless behavior. Wow. You can tell I don't have children. My priorities were really screwed up then... I'm a grown up now.

Rant over. Sorry about that. Hopefully, I have moved on from those days. I just don't want to lose my money (I know I will take a big loss; I'm not delusional). I clearly have already lost my mind.

I find it extremely bad that a re-seller lied to you about the value of your bag. It doesn´t matter if it was your bag she sold for a 1K profit. She listed a bag which was the same style you had previously been told was worthless. She knew what it was worth or she wouldn´t have listed it (yours or not yours) at the price she did. Sorry but her excuses just went out the window.

Oh wow that's shady... I can't believe she did that...it's one thing if a seller asks for X amount and the reseller agrees . It's another if they tell you your bag is only worth $200 and you take then they sell for $1200....that's so wrong

Greedy scammers are rampant EVERYwhere we turn these days... I seriously feel like a grumpy old curmudgeon with my rants regarding entitled and thieving sociopaths... But I honestly do not think it can be repeated enough... I only buy retail, and that will likely never change.... I will never sell my mint and pristine items that I no longer use... And the ONLY reason for my refusal is because of the filthy cheaters who RUIN it for the honest people.... I must add though, is that deceitful participants in the second hand marketplace will not find long term and continuous success with these behaviors... The world and life and karma have a way of making sure of that... But there will always be another d-bag breeding in the shadows... I am really sorry that this skank of a glutton took advantage of you... And it is this incident that sealed the deal for me...where I still had an inkling of pondering consignment, or even trading with a "reputable" consignment type...no way.... Rotten apple just ruined it....

What do you mean no protection? I am new to ebay but I thought there was protection?

I am inclined to agree with you. My one hold out was consignment for my never used Chanel pieces, but if I'm going to be ripped off by them as well, then what's the point?

I know a lot of ( a couple or so) good consignment sites. They will take a percentage, which you know beforehand, and you can tell them how much they should list the item for. They are obviously in it to make money but they won´t lie to you.

Three of them are Kaleidoplace, Lovethatbag and Hautegallery. I have only been a buyer so far but I wouldn´t hesitate to send my items to them. They are excellent.
