We all know there is a market for online sales of authentic designer bags and accessories, both new and pre-owned. If I had a decent business sense and the resources, I'd start working on one for sure. Enlist the authenticators of the various designers from tPF to ensure that it's 150% authentic merchandise that gets listed. Above all that it's an atmosphere of decency and fairness to seller and buyers alike. Not just the money machine that *bay has become.

Something to think about.
Kudos to you PP. If the pup didn't need surgery every couple of weeks, I would be done with eBay. But I can't come up with an alternative yet.

I totally agree that there has to be a better way, I just haven't found it yet and can't get into the MP yet.

I have consigned with Ann's and Fashionphile but you lose a ton of money on your bags. By the time their percentages and all the fees are deducted, if you get 50% of what you paid, you are really doing good. Don't get me started on Fashionphile's eBay over-pricing or their outright buy program-- let's just said I have taken over $3K loses, with them making over $1K profit from me on ONE bag.

Plus with Ann's and the consignors that offer layaway , if the bag doesn't sell right away, you could be looking at a couple of months before you are paid.

If you don't want to be bothered, consignment is the way to go, but be aware of how much you may lose.

Someone on tpf tech savy could make a killing if they could come up with an alternative.

First off, I applaud you, PP! You're really an inspiration and I'm sorry to hear that they yanked your last auction.
eBay is really going down lately...keeping my fingers crossed, I haven't had any major problems but that's really up in the air anymore.

And second, lionlaw, I totally agree.
I took a couple of bags to a consignment shop last weekend...one bag is currently worth $3900 and if it's to sell, I will only be getting $1600 from it.
And for another, he only wanted to give me $900 for it, then upped it to $1000 on a bag worth in the high $2000's (I took that one back home with me). And he bought a $785 Dior from me for $225. I almost want to go buy it back, but he probably priced it at around $600.
It's highway robbery, I know they need to pay rent and whatever but seriously, I need all the money I can get and the offers are really pathetic. I'm thinking of getting my $3900 one back and trying to sell it myself.

There really needs to be a better venue for things like this, no matter what you do, you end up getting screwed in some way.

I totally agree. I mean they can make a profit, but the pittance they pay us for the bags is highway robbery. They say it is because they are assuming the risk if the bag doesn't sell, but come on, we all know what these bags are worth and that they will sell.

come on, someone here has to be tech-savy. anyone??

I do know there has been some mention from Vlad about setting up an "*Bay style" auction site here on tPF or some how affiliated with tPF, but that's about all I know about it. I'm not talking about the Marketplaza, that's something else all together. It was supposed to be something new.

Oh, Vlaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad?

That would be awesome. I am sure all of us would rather pay fees to Megs/Vlad to support tpf than to pay evilbay or some consignment shop.

The auction has been removed. Darn it! I didn't get to see it. Being new to this forum, I wish there were some listing of you sellers of authentic items on eBay. I already got screwed once, and thus do not trust any sellers. Feel free to contact me.

They pulled a Chanel wallet I had for sale due to no hologram, but the wallet was vintage, dating back to before Chanel even had holograms. Anyway, I went in circles with eBay long enough that I literally quit selling there. I found Bidville and started listing there, but couldn't sell much because 100% of the other Chanel items on their site (purses, wallets and sunglasses) were fake. I couldn't compete with their prices. I tried to report the sellers (several with literally hundreds of items for sale) and Chanel wanted a list of the specific auction numbers of every fake item to even begin an investigation. I told them there were hundreds of items, that I already had a full time job, so to take the info I'd provided and do with it what they may. Obviously, they did really care since the same seller was on Bidville until they got bought out and shut down by Ubid. So much for that!

I'm a huge Chanel fan and they are the only company I've ever tried to contact directly, but I imagine Louis Vuitton reacted a lot differently when people contacted them. I imagine that, much like everyone else, when Louis Vuitton tried contacting eBay they probably got a canned response, which is why they sued them. I sent eBay an email this morning in regard to my selling limits inquiry, telling them that they are trying to solve their problem by kicking everyone off of eBay, regardless of selling history, and not taking advantage of their best asset - their honest sellers. Take a look at the thread here about the scammer who's screwing people out of their money with Balenciaga eBay auctions (check the authenticate Balenciaga thread for the link). The ladies here got to work, found and identified the scammer, worked with the authorities and it made a huge difference. she same scammer is at it again under a different name and they've identified her right away. That is what eBay needs working on their side - honest people!! They probably won't even get read my email, but I tried.
I don't think I will email Chanel as I see its just waste of time!
But eBay just put me off buying from them anything as I always thought if I don't like it I will sell it back on Ebay! No more fun for me!
Anyone know about clothes swap or exchange websites??
If so please let me know!!!!

The only consigner currently selling on eBay (to my knowledge) who does not charge an absolute fortune is personalshoppers. I emailed her about her consignment terms: 10% of selling price plus eBay/PayPal fees, which she says comes to about 16% total. I personally think it would be a little more than that, but it's still the best consignment fee I've heard yet. And actually, she may be correct about the total because she almost exclusively does BIN's. You ship the bag to her, the two of you decide on the price, she takes the pics, lists the bag, sells it, ships it and sends you your money. Her only requirements are that the bag be authentic, of course, and either new or gently used.

She does sell bags right and left. She seems very nice in her emails and I told her that I would tell other members of the Purse Forum what her terms were. So I think that she will stick to the terms above if she knows you are a tPF member. I have never consigned with anyone, but I think she is a trustworthy seller. The fact that she can apparently list all of the bags she wants is another huge plus for someone who really needs to move her merchandise.

I tend to want to sell my bags myself, because that's all I've ever done, but even if I am never allowed to list again, I don't think I could bring myself to consign with someone who ends up with 50%. That is outrageous!

I can confirm that our own auction-style alternative to eBay for bags is in the making. Can't give you an ETA though, so please don't ask.
