It's the responsibility of the seller to insure the package and to get a tracking number. Ebay changed its rules and now the sellers are no longer allowed to charge extra for insurance, you should roll it into your costs.

Also, for Paypal to Protect you the item must shipped within 7 days from payment. Paypal and Ebay have a lot of new rules and it's a pain to sell on Ebay, but you do you should know their rules in order to avoid someone scamming you.
Good Luck, I hope you can find your receipt and everything works out for you!
Perfect advice! To add 1 more thing... for transactions under $250, delivery confirmation is required. For transactions $250 and over, signature confirmation is required. Ebay sellers need to be VERY precise in following eBAY/PP shipping guidelines. Lots of buyers end up w/ free stuff because seller's are not aware or do not adhere to "the rules".
OP....The issue at hand is YOUR problem, not the buyer's.

In all reality I'm SHOCKED that you've been selling since 2000 on the bay and have yet to run across a scammer!!! LUCKY YOU!!!

I always insist that ALL packages are shipped w/ DC if not SC and if the buyer wants ins. I usually give them the option to request and pay for it, sometimes (on pricey items) I INSIST that I won't ship the package without ins.

I just shipped a bag off last week, listed it as from a smoking home. It was a Lindsay and had the hangtag attatched. Now the buyer is saying the bag smells like smoke (HELLO-DUH) and that there's no hangtag!!! Now, is it really that big of a deal to re-send another brass hangtag? NO! Does it irritate the CRAP out of me that someone would bother to lie? YES!!! A good friend listed the bag and sold it for me, so needless to say I would NEVER risk her feedback for a little brass hangtag!!! People are ALWAYS trying to get something for NOTHING!!!

I hope you're able to prove some type of tracking...I'm sure after this experience you'll DC every package you ship?! $0.65 cents SO WELL SPENT!!!!

Best of Luck!!!

how much was the package worth?

ellie may and mbp offer fantastic advice. if you print postage online via paypal if automatically includes a tracking number to avoid this in the future.

OP you should probably start printing your labels on paypal. they offer FREE DC when you send an item Priority Mail. You must always have confirmation of delivery in some form when dealing with ebay.

I couldn't read the whole thing kuz it was all in one paragraph and my eyes have been bugging the crap out of me lately; however, based on what I did read, all I can say is that
  • the claim that once the item leaves the seller's hands it's no longer her responsibility is invalid kuz in eBay's world it is the seller's responsibility not only to ship the item but also to deliver it (via whatever carrier she uses),
  • the seller has to purchase delivery or signature confirmation in order to qualify for seller protection,
  • the seller has to ship the item within seven days of receiving payment.

These are not secrets of the trade one learns with selling experience but simple facts clearly explained in eBay's Selling Basics and PP's terms and conditions.

I know I must sound like a broken record by now, but I'll keep on saying it kuz of the cases we see here every day: read eBay's instructions before buying and selling on eBay; read PP's instructions before using PP to buy or sell; familiarize yourself with whatever shipping method/carrier you plan to use before you buy postage and ship.

You can avoid a world of trouble by taking this elementary steps. I would be willing to bet that the number of help-me threads here would drop by 75% if people just read the instructions prior to diving into buying/selling on eBay.

OP, I don't think you are acting like a professional seller. You are not providing very good customer service.

Go to the paypal dispute and put the delivery confirmation number into the bottom of the PP transaction (if you have a DC #).

You should be bending over backwards to provide good customer service.

I am suspecting this was not sent USPS PROIRITY. You may have taken it to the post office and shipped it, but Priority shipping to anywhere in the US only takes at the most 3 business days. This is probably why there is no tracking number-it was sent First Class.
I am sorry this has happened to you, but I agree with several of the others-even though the buyer takes her time, the seller never should-it's bad customer service. And, since only buyers can leave bad feedback, it's a sure fire way of receiving negative feedback.
Unfortunately, the rules that sellers must observe on Ebay is completely out of balance compared to what evil buyers can do. Good Luck and make sure you leave her EBayID on the bad buyer list so others can block her. Even if she is no longer registered, if she opens a new account, her old ID will appear with the new one.

So I read it thru and OP actually called her buyer who paid (albeit late) a scammer? She merely asked for a tracking number since she has not received it. Is it not possible for mails to get lost? And it is the seller's responsibility to get a tracking number/DC whether the buyer paid for it or not. If you can't provide the tracking number, paypal will refund the buyer. Please buy DC (it's free with priority mail) in the future for all your packages.

It can't be First Class, maybe Parcel.
And DC is $.70-$.80 these days...and keeps going up and up and up...

I think OP is MIA....

OP, I'm sorry but I have to agree to the comments that buyer asking a tracking number for the package she still haven't received 12 days after she paid is totally reasonable (aside from the tone of the message you received from her).
If you sent the package by USPS Priority, you must have a tracking number.
That's what the Priority service is for...
Hope you can find the receipt.

Also, I highly recommend to purchase postage online either via PayPal or USPS.
I heard it's cheaper than buying at windows and you never loose receipts.
Even in the event that your computer get clashed, you can get mails from IP servers.

I agree with everyone, and I don't want to sound like a broken record either but If you decide to sell on Ebay YOU must read Paypal Ebay's rules in order to protect yourself.
It's the sellers responsibility to provide a tracking number, delivery confirmation of the item is over 250$, to ship within 7 days. The seller is responsible to make sure the buyer gets the item and a good seller provides good customer service.

I understand your frustration, but honestly, wouldn't you be mad if you bought something and your seller took 12 days to ship and didn't send you a tracking number?wouldn't you be mad if someone called you scammer with no proof? without a tracking number you can't be sure your buyer got the item..So you can't be sure she is trying to scam you.
Maybe it got lost and the buyer is not really trying to scam you, but you'll never know unless you get a tracking number!!

I hope you find your tracking number, otherwise this will be an expensive lesson because Paypal will rule on your buyer's favor.

It is signature confirmation if the total is $250 or more.
