I'm guessing he meant "home address" and not "PayPal address" but who knows...
Regarding the UPS insurance claim -- I wonder how that works for electronics if there is no physical damage to the item. Unless I missed reading something, the buyer's not saying the item is cracked or chipped, but rather there is an electrical/display malfunction. I don't know how you would prove that the shipment process caused that... |

Make sure to verify the serial number!!!! Before you ship, have him verify the serial number!

I tried to call the manufacturer and see if they could look it up but they were closed for the day. I know I registered it so I am just hoping hoping they can, or I magically find my paperwork. |

I called UPS...they said they could send someone to pick it up and see how it got damaged. I don't know if that is the way to go, since I have no way of knowing if that is what happened.
This is so depressing. Especially since the day I shipped it, I got an offer via Craigslist from a local guy offering $100 more. |

He has now messaged me TWICE to send him my address. I don't know what to do! I don't want him to mail it back if I should verify serial number/file with UPS first. I just want to make sure I am doing everything right, and I feel rushed.

Explain this to him.Tell him you are NOT ignoring him.Tell him you have been in contact with UPS and you are trying to figure out what you need to do next.Tell him you will talk with them plus the company you bought this item from tomorrow a.m. and then email him back as soon as you hear what you need to do..What did UPS say they would pick it up from where??

I think he is angling for a partial refund. Is that common?

Have you done as others suggested with asking him to verify the serial number prior to shipping since he purchased the same camera the same day he purchased one from you. It sound fishy especially if you verifed it was working before you sent it.
If you do not feel like going through the dramatics, then it might be best to save the headache and give him the partial refund and be done with him. JMHO. |

I had an item that I shipped damaged by UPS. The claim process can take a couple of weeks, but I did receive reimbursement. I believe that if the item is over $50-75 then they will send someone out to take a look at the damage.
UPS told me to tell the buyer not to send the item back as this voids the insurance. If the buyer sends the item back to you how do they know that it was not damaged upon return? Especially your buyer who wants to send it Priority Mail and not UPS. They sent someone out to my buyer's house, to look at the damaged item. After this was done, they boxed it up and shipped the item back to me. I received the check a couple of days later. I would tell your buyer that the you tested the camera before shipping and it worked, therefore you believe that it was damaged during shipment. Tell him that you filed a claim with UPS and he cannot send back the camera to you until UPS views the item. If he sends it back, this voids the insurance, and you will not be able to issue a refund. He must hang on to the box and packaging material, as they will want to see this also. When they are done looking at the camera, it will be sent back to you, unless you request otherwise. He will not have to pay to ship back the item. I was lucky as my buyer cooperated with myself and UPS, but I can see where some buyers might cause problems. |

Yes it's a common scam to say an item doesn't work and that you want a partial refund.
