Default Help, confusing paypal problem

Hi, recently I sold a bag, not much money and the seller started all the usual I think its fake etc so I just told her to send it back and I would refund. I was going on holiday the next day so I couldnt be bothered with the hassle. I got back a couple of days ago and havent received yet but I refunded anyway. I worried a lot about it when I was away and I just wanted the issue closed.
I tried to refund from the original transaction and my paypal account had no funds so it said payment was pending as an echeque would be sent as refund.
The original transaction said payment complete.
A few minutes later I got this message from Paypal

It may take a few moments for this transaction to appear in the Recent Activity list on your Account Overview.Because this refund was for a pending payment, the payment has been cancelled and no money has been credited to or withdrawn from your PayPal account balance.

I dont get it. Her payment said complete so how can it now have been pending? And why does my paypal still say echeque is pending? Why is it confusing?

It wasnt much money and she kept asking and I have a tracking number. I dont want her to start disputes etc. If dont receive I suppose I will ask her to claim insurance. It all happened the day before my holiday so i think it may be sitting in the post office somewhere. The whole thing has put me off eBay again. I just have too many bags in my closets and i want to sell but buyers are in such a good position they just open disputes etc and i really didnt want that.

Sorry mooks I am very confusing. She posted the bag back while I was on holiday but I am not sure whether my post office held it or it went back to her. I need to enquire. She knows it hasnt been received too as she has the tracking number and she has made enquiries. I just gave the refund as I had made her wait almost two weeks while I was away. If it was very high value I would have had it back first but there is no way i want a dispute opened as it irritates me the way paypal just take money out of account for refunds etc, I wanted to settle between us.

Oh ok so you've had a thing to go and collect a parcel?

Best bet is to call Paypal and find out what's going on, sounds all too confusing

Well the parcel is kind of lost I think. I am not bothered too much about much at the moment, sorry if I sound kind of dumb. I found out last week my best friend has cancer and all the stuff I normally worry about seems so trivial. I am just thinking if the parcel gets lost I will get some back from insurance. I was just confused by paypals message.

So sorry to hear about your best friend! But the advances that have been made are amazing. The treatment is absolute hell to go through, but I beat it, and I pray that she can too. You are so right - when the really hard things in life happen, it's amazing what becomes extremely trivial. God bless!
