Default Handbag sellers, am I the only one that does this??!?!!?

I feel like banging my head against a wall!! Whenever I sell a bag or wallet on eBay I always include a penny in the pocket as I was taught at an early age to never give a wallet, bag, bank, etc...with no money in it. I suppose it brings bad financial luck or whatever. Anyway, I sold a brand, new and totally GORGEOUS bag on eBay and the seller sent me a note saying that she believes the bag was used as she found a penny in one of the pockets and she will wait for my explaination before leaving me feedback?!?!? I guess in the future I need to enclose a note explaining although I just assumed it was self explainitory!!! Am I crazy here or has nobody else ever hear of this??

Awww... Purse, that is SO sweet! However, I wouldn't have "got it" either!

I didn't know that and I haven't ever done it! The thought is so genuine and sweet, though. I am sure, once you explain it to her, she will think the same thing.

Sure, you may want to include that on a note inside when you ship in the future. I think even the note about it is a kind gesture!

Anthony Luciano, a high end designer sold in Bergdorf etc. actually sews a penny into each of his bags for the same reason--for good luck, so the penny thing is not unknown, although clearly this person didn't know about it. I would just explain it to her graciously.

funnily enough i always include like a dollar when i sell a wallet- a purse i usually just give little things that would go in a handbag like mini tissues or a mini hairbrush, etc. i put it in a little baggie though with my card and stuff and a note explaining why i included it instead of in the wallet for the reason you mentioned- so no one would think it was used. just explain nicely and i'm sure your buyer will understand.

I've never heard of it, either, but maybe it's a US-only thing?

I think it's really sweet, too.

Maybe you should explain that you always include a penny (even in new bags and wallets), along with a description of the custom, as a cute little anecdote in your auction listings, from now on?

Never heard of this. I would have a printout that I included with every bag sold explaining this custom. Instead of confusion I think customers would find it very endearing!!!

No, can't say I have, sadly!

That's very interesting, Melissa, thanks for the info!

I have never heard of that, but I think it's sweet! Perhaps you should include a little note to let them know!

I have heard of this. It's a very sweet custom. Leave it to an eBay sale - your kindness came back to bite you on the @$$!!!!! I can't wait to see her response after you email her. Talk about embarrassing!

I think that is quite a tradition. I actually follow that, too, however instead of a penny, I throw in a $5 Starbucks card, with a thank you (including the buyer's name) so that the buyer knows it was intentional, not that I forgot to remove my things.

OT, Purse, I'm sorry for your loss. (Siggy pic)

I just noticed that you lost your loved one on the same day my dad died this year.

If you give someone a wallet or purse, you're supposed to put a bit of money in it or you're cursing them to poverty. Same thing when you give someone knives as a gift, they need to give you a penny so it won't "cut" the friendship.
