Default Handbag ONLY auction site

Okay, I have spent lots of time reading all the posts about recent eBay problems. I am a power seller, perfect feedback..banned from listing designer handbags (the ONLY thing I sell). I know that lots of others are just as frustrated as I am. It is quite possible that we will not be able to FREELY list our authentic bags. Things WILL change as a result of all of this. Counterfeiters will thrive and honest people will sink.

If there was another site do you think people would use it? I know that places like iOffer exist, but they SUCK. I will outline my thoughts below. Read it, add to it, and be perfectly honest- would it work???

---------------------------------------------------
The site would ONLY sell handbags and accessory items.

It would be member moderated

Members would need to be Paypal verified, or sponsored by another member

There would be categories for the brands, members would authenticate items before listing.

The listings would buy it now or best offer format

There would be a flat listing fee of $25- scammers like to avoid ever paying, so collecting money up front would greatly reduce infiltration

Payments would be expected via paypal (for buyer/seller protection)- though a buyer could choose to waive this

------------------------

Just a rough idea, but I think that something like this would be great. Any ideas???
Thanks- Trisha

Trisha, I think this is an idea whose time has definitely come. Although the eBay restrictions will be somewhat modified in thirty days, it is only a matter of time before another site-wide sweep against sellers is put into action. I really like your ideas above. Since tPF has so many members, most of whom enjoy selling their authentic bags, I would say that you will not lack for listings. Have you considered a feedback rating system where both buyers and sellers may leave feedback? I think some sort of commentary format would be necessary, as it is on EvilBay. I, for one, would love, love, love it. I am a Power Seller, 756 fb, 100% positive, and I have been restricted from selling my Chanel bags. I sell both vintage and new bags and have never once received anything but glowing feedback. I am so irritated with eBay at this point, but honestly, once we were no longer allowed to leave feedback for buyers, I was ready to close my account. More power to you!

Sounds good to me......I still in shock over the e-bay thing. With their catering to buyers re: the feedback issue, and now the limits (which caught us totally offguard)-- honest sellers do need somewhere to sell their bags.

I'd like to see this happen. I think you should definitely make it seller and buyer verified. Put a system into place where we can be 100% sure we are dealing with legitimate "people" and not scam artists. I think you should be able to have a "moderator" who can look at your eBay account and rate you according to that. If someone doesn't want to link their Ebay name to the new auction, they could still provide it "privately" to a mod who can view it. Also, I'd like to see an initial "probation" period for both buyers and sellers. Say, for instance, that you open a new account and get verified. Then you should only be allowed to list/sell 3 items and buy/sell the same. Once those 3 transactions have been positive for both seller/buyer, then you can list or buy 3 more.

Something like that. Just "thinking" out loud.

I like it. A member feedback system is a MUST. The probabtion is also an EXCELLENT idea.
Keep the ideas coming :)

I am going to talk to a web builder later today.

Anyone think it is a horrible idea? Please feel free to give me reasons why NOT.

I would love it! It would probably be safer than buying on eBay since the members would authenticate the handbags.

I think that would be a wonderful idea but I don't like the pp part. After being the victim of a few scammers and losing some of my valuable bags (05 Bal magenta mint city) I refuse to use pp anymore. I aways pay with a cc but use google now instead. They verify everything and when I first started using them I had to submit receipts and etc. before they would let me process payments. I appreciated the extra security measures on their part and I like that they are a processor only, the $ goes straight to your bank.

Soooo done with evilbay - I would love to sell somewhere else, especially if that somewhere was filled with other honest sellers who worked diligently to maintain quality control. I know that realistically the authentication process could be extremely time consuming, especially for the higher volume brands (i.e. Coach rather than, say, Gryson). But I like the idea of the site ONLY dealing with handbags which I think would make it much easier to do so. I definitely think the feedback and probation ideas are good ones, as well as making sure the powers that be are able to take a look at eBay histories before granting access. Something has to be done! EBAY, HEAR THIS: WE'RE MAD AS HELL AND WE'RE NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE!

As promised I have spent HOURS checking into the idea of an starting an auction website for designer handbag sales. As stated in my original post it would be member moderated. Meaning that all bags would be authenticated via forums (bypassed if one maintains perfect feedback after the intital probation). At that time a member could list the bag.

Ok, while we're talking about features we like or don't like...personally, I wouldn't pay $25 to list an item that has no concrete chance of selling. I would rather pay a final value fee once the item sells.

What if you could relist and change it as many times as you want? On eBay I pay
$6-8 to list the item, and then final value fees. Most of my bags are spendy, so after I pay all the the fees I have spent about $50+

I suppose that it could be based on a listing price.

Let me know what you think....
I have been thinking about this for months... and have a much shorter list because I did not initially see it as a for profit or very large.

A lot of what you have above sounds like eBay, but member authentification would be nice but eBay already has the report this.

However I know as a seller I would never pay $25 upfront.

I'd still have to say I'd only want to pay if the item sells- but as I run a store with CC payments daily I am used to having charges taken off only when items sell. Small listing fees- a dollar here or there for preferred placement, etc.- would be much better, I think!

I'm totally sick of PP too. I'd do anything possible to not have to give Feebay and PP another dime. Google Checkout is great, and I plan to use it exclusively on my website. I have purchased a few bags from honestforum.com. You can list for free, but again not there is not much traffic on their site.
