Default Don't Buy thing from Hong Kong and China Seller in Ebay
I tried to buy a dress from a Hong Kong seller couple weeks ago as their price is lower than other US sellers. Their setting price was $0.99, yet their shipping and handling fee was over $10. this week, when I got the item from them, I was so disappointed, the item was not as described and as photos shown. I asked them to refund and they agreed to refund me the price they sold, excluding the shipping and handling charge. I was pissed off as I will only be refund less than 1 buck and I have to pay for the Shipping fee to return to that seller.

I will never buy things from Oversea seller. I rather pay more for a US seller.

Would open a dispute and claim and your seller will be notified that and since

the item was a SNAD, you expect them to refund your shipping and handling.

^ Yes.

You'll still have to pay to ship it back, I'm afraid, but at least you won't lose the original shipping fee.

you are generalizing sellers from Hong Kong and China. $10 to ship items from Asia to the States is not unreasonable.

^ I agree that she's making a broad generalisation, but I don't think she's saying that $10 shipping would be unreasonable, had the item been as described (and in fact, she can't have thought that it was unreasonable, can she? Otherwise she, presumably, wouldn't have bought the dress in the first place?).

I presume she's saying that this seller is using the high (albeit reasonable) cost of shipping, as a convenient excuse to ship people junk, in the hope that no one bothers to send anything back for a refund, as it just isn't worth it once the seller has deducted the shipping fee from the refund (which they shouldn't do, of course, as the item is SNAD).

You do realise that there are several US-based eBay sellers that import their items from Hong Kong/China and then sell them at a profit, right, so you'll be getting the same quality item at more exorbitant prices?

Anyway, file a SNAD claim and try going through eBay. According to other users on this forum they've been paying for return postage so it means you won't be as much out of pocket.

I see this with beads all the time - there are a handful of big sellers with big stores on both eBay and Etsy, that will sell you something like 800 little spacer beads for $4 and a couple more to ship from China, which they do, but it takes forever and some of their buyers, instead of making bling, re-sell the same spacer beads at like 10 for $5.99, plus a couple to ship - from one place in the US to another.

Sometimes they will write descriptions that make the beads sound fancier, or even boast that they are a US seller!

Edit to add that I give these China sellers props for the pics they put up, you can see which items are crap, and which ones are perfectly fine, they don't try to put up photos of "good' ones and when you get your 800 you see that about a quarter of them are ish.

I'm not sure who buys the obviously ish ones or why, but the point is, the honest sellers, wherever they are, don't try to deceive people, even people who believe the word "Tibet" in a description means that the item contains precious metal.

^ Yes, I've seen this sort of thing with very inexpensive jade jewellery, too.

i'm so sorry you didn't get what you expected!

i seem to be the only one with a good experience! i recently bought a beautiful black dress (intricate lace detailing, beautiful fabric) from a seller in china and was thrilled!

i had scoured all the high-end boutiques in LA for "the perfect dress" for an event and didn't find anything as beautiful as the $100 dress I bought from china. (maybe i just got really lucky?)

I guess it boils down to you can't expect to get a great quality item when only paying 99 cents. Sellers everywhere make their money from too high shipping charges.

If you asked for measurements and they lied, if it was enough money to be worth your time and effort, you might be able to get a refund on the significantly not as described thing.

And for all the newbies lurking - don't even buy so much as a Hanes t-shirt without getting measurements!

Oh yes! I remember seeing this and being quite amused! 24 carat Tibet, let's go!

We should clarify, for the sake of newbie bling makers.

When you see cheap spacer beads, etc that are called "Tibet" or "Tibetan," it refers to a style of bead that is similar to, or Inspired by, beads used in some Tibetan traditional bling.

If you can get 200 or 800 of them for $4 on Etsy, you can rest assured that in case you plan to make something for a loved one who happens to be Vampire, there will be no problem.
